Job Profile

Our team is currently delivering environmental and social advisory services to development banks, commercial lenders, investors and developers on over 1000MW of onshore wind, over 500MW of solar PV, run-of river hydro power in Chile and Nicaragua, geothermal power projects in Central America, conventional thermal power, toll roads and waste projects.

We also work on projects outside Latin America funded by agencies such as the USTDA under government led initiatives such as Power Africa including countries such as Kenya, Mozambique, Ghana and South Africa.

Countries we are currently active in include: Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Honduras, Colombia, Chile, Nicaragua, Panama, Guatemala and Mexico. Travel to these countries will be a key part of the role.

Job Description

Your work as a senior environmental specialist will be varied in terms of services, countries and project types. Our focus is around environment for energy projects both domestically, internationally and for international development schemes.

The advisory services you'll be involved in, and often leading as project manager will include due diligence, construction monitoring, operations monitoring and environmental and social impact assessments, environmental management and environmental permitting.

Your position will be based in The Woodlands, TX or Washington DC with travel mainly around Central and Latin America. You will work on a wide range of global energy projects including renewable energy and thermal power plants. The emphasis on the different aspects of the work will depend on your current skills but also where you'd like to develop with support from the extensive global Mott MacDonald environmental network.

A lot of our work requires Spanish and English technical report writing and so fluency in each will be essential.

We will develop you but we also want you to be aware of the kind of work you'll be doing so you can self determine if you have a good grounding from which to go from when considering your application.

As mentioned above, we're providing a lot of environmental and social advisory and due diligence services on power infrastructure projects. We deal with a lot of lender's documentation including environment and social action plans, stakeholder engagement plans and resettlement action plans. We audit services against international standards for projects in construction and operation, compliance monitoring and E&S supervision. You'll be asked to develop E&S management and action plans and understand risks and impacts for a range of power technologies including thermal generation, wind, solar and hydropower.

Sometimes we have to provide specialist advice and, while we have expertise all over the world which you can call upon, familiarity with air quality, noise, bird and bat ecology will help with some projects.

As a senior environmental specialist you'll also be mentoring less experienced staff to get them ahead in their careers and help them develop into senior specialists too.

Candidate Specification

Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken, is essential for us to serve many of our customers. You'll also need to have a good working knowledge of international lender guidelines including Equator Principles and the IFC Performance Standards.
