Job Description

We are currently preparing for a large DFID Cities and Infrastructure for Growth (CIG) programme opportunity in Uganda. This project will focus on the areas of urban economic development, local economics and employment, city and regional planning to promote local economic development, urban investment strategies and smart urban solutions in urban infrastructure provision. The overall impact of the CIG programme will be enhanced economic growth leading to job creation and poverty reduction.

We are seeking experienced Civil Society/Governance and Accountability Experts with substantial (minimum of 10 years) international experience for both long and short-term consultancy opportunities.

Candidate Specification

  • Masters in social development, economics, sociology, anthropology, governance, international development or related fields.
  • Previous regional experience in sub-Saharan Africa on donor funded programmes
  • Experience delivering high quality engagement and consultation on the planning and implementation of cities/power/infrastructure projects for communities (including women and marginalised groups), and on increasing their involvement in engaging with public bodies and holding them to account.
  • Track record in building coalitions for change with civil society, understanding the political environment and ability to identify and build relationships with reform champions.
  • Experience in gender-responsive programming and the economic inclusion of disadvantaged groups.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with civil society and in mapping civil society organisations in cities/power/infrastructure sectors.
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Fluent in English
  • Second language skills desirable.
