For International Development Services (IDS) in Arnhem, Netherlands, we are looking for a Senior Consultant Transportation who has ample experience working on donor funded, international development transportation projects. In addition to technical leadership and business development the role will involve encouraging the technical development of staff within the IDS Transportation portfolio.

Job Description

  • Technical support and backstopping for IDS transportation projects, including responsibilities as Project Director for relevant projects;
  • Potential involvement as Team Leader/technical inputs for IDS transportation projects,
  • Lead on technical input to proposals relating to transportation;
  • Participation in proposal reviews;
  • Technical liaison with
    • Transportation Unit;
    • National and regional hubs of expertise in transportation across Mott MacDonald globally;
  • Coordination of technical IDS activities in Transportation with MM Group Practice Managers;
  • Identify capabilities; specialisms and competencies of staff in the practice areas and maintain and mentor this community (across operational boundaries).
  • Provide technical capacity building, advice and training to project and technical staff within the Transportation Portfolio;
  • Supporting Group Practice Leaders as subject matter experts for Transportation;
  • Technical representation of UDT to funding agencies, clients and partner organisations in the fields of transportation;
  • Publication and support for papers in industry and development literature, Mott MacDonald publications; and prominent representation at key industry and development sector conferences and events;
  • Support and input relevant aspects of business planning process for UDT, IESD and IDS;
  • Awareness of local markets, opportunities, clients and competitors.
  • Develop MM’s leading edge thoughts on subject matter related to Transportation for international development and support appropriate innovation.

Candidate Specification

  • Chartered Engineer, Transport Planner or relevant professional qualifications;
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Civil Engineering) or similar;
  • At least 15 years professional experience, with at least 5 years of experience working on donor funded projects in the transport sector;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English;
  • Experience in management and implementation of major transport infrastructure and planning projects;
  • Experience of working in developing countries;
  • Experience in technical proposal writing for donor funded transport projects;
  • Willingness to travel for short inputs (up to two months) in developing countries;
