Job Description

You will be responsible for providing day-to-day ecological support to a range of projects where a freshwater ecologist input is required. You will be part of a multidisciplinary environmental team, working closely with other disciplines to ensure ecological objectives for projects are delivered successfully, within budget and to programme. You will be based in the Cambridge office; however, there will be a requirement to undertake site surveys and attend client meetings. In addition, there may be a need for general ecological support to a range of projects.

Candidate Specification

• Highly competent ecologist with good UK experience across a variety of aquatic survey types as well as data analysis.
• Able to undertake (with minimal supervision) one or more of the following: River Habitat Surveys (with accreditation), River Corridor Surveys, fish surveys, macrophyte and macroinvertebrate surveys.
• Degree in ecology/ biology or directly related subject (minimum of 2.1 classification).
• Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to write concise reports.
• Experience in liaising with design engineers to achieve positive ecological outcomes.
• Experience in preparation and writing ecological sections of environmental impact assessments ensuring that legislative guidelines are met.
• A good understanding of river habitats and aquatic species requirements.
• Proficient in Word and Excel.
• Thorough understanding of UK nature conservation legislation.
• Good understanding of the development of mitigation strategies for aquatic protected species and habitats.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take the initiative, make robust, defensible decisions and work to tight deadlines to meet client needs.
• Associate or full member of CIEEM.
