Infrastructure Advisor

Job Profile

Mott MacDonald has won many commercial and industry awards, including Technical Advisor of the Year for most of the last few years at the Infrastructure Journal Awards. We are looking for a highly motivated technical advisor to join our prestigious Technical Advisory team in Singapore. This role is a result of continued expansion of our national and international client base ensuring delivery of high quality worldwide multi-disciplinary projects.

You will join a small, but rapidly growing Advisory team which covers predominantly the South East Asian market, with a strong track record advising on infrastructure projects. Our clients include private and public sector organisations across a range of sectors including social infrastructure, industrial, transport, waste and water.

The Advisory team provides advice on technical and commercial aspects of Public Private Partnerships and infrastructure finance, as well as strategic advice in relation to infrastructure development. This includes technical and commercial due diligence, market studies, business case preparation, transaction structuring and procurement advisory, project management and tender support.

Job Description

  • Providing technical advice to clients as part of a project team, working on schemes through all stages of a project’s inception and procurement;
  • Developing knowledge of fundamental project issues for a range of sectors, but particularly social infrastructure;
  • Contribution of specialist sector knowledge for business case preparation, tender document preparation and technical due diligence;
  • Preparation of proposals;
  • Management of projects, including financial, technical and contractual matters and compliance with internal quality procedures and directives;
  • Maximising profitability of projects, monitoring against budget, reacting to and anticipating potential problems, use of the company’s commercial project management software;
  • Assisting with business development activities;
  • Collaboration, ownership and development of relationships internally within the Mott MacDonald infrastructure finance practice network.

Candidate Specification

General Skills and attributes:
  • Significant project experience in the social infrastructure sector and/or the transport sector;
  • At least 5 years’ experience advising on infrastructure projects including experience on PPP projects;
  • Experience of working with and managing a range of clients and stakeholders including Government Authorities and/or lenders;
  • Experience of writing successful proposals;
  • Experience of preparing basic financial models would be advantageous;
  • Evidence of working on varied commissions and flexibility to adapt knowledge to areas outside immediate experience;

Personal skills and attributes:
A self-starter comfortable in taking initiative and responsibility;
  • Able to prioritise and plan effectively while balancing competing demands;
  • A good verbal communicator and ability to prepare precise and clear written reports;
  • Flexibility and interest to contribute to a wide range of assignments;
  • Self-motivated and willing to undertake a wide range of tasks;
  • Confident to deal with areas and issues outwith immediate experience;
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude at dealing with lots of interfaces, including technical, commercial / contractual, and personal / stakeholder;
  • Ability to critically analyse data, identify its importance, advise on its shortcomings and how it should be improved;
  • A willingness to travel and work on a short-term basis in countries across Asia (sometimes at short notice) as required;
  • Well organised, with strong planning and management skills.

Education and professional Membership
  • Degree in a related discipline
  • A post-graduate degree in a related discipline would be advantageous
