Job Description

Tunnel Engineer III for tunnels, microtunnels, horizontal directional drilling, braced excavations and other under- ground structures/projects.

Candidate Specification

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience as a Civil Engineer, Tunnel Engineer, or related.

Experience with the following:

  • Geotechnical and structural engineering principles such as bearing capacity, tunnel -induced settlement, support design, interpretation of soil parameters for design and steel and reinforced concrete design in relation to bored and/or mined tunnel structures.
  • Application of soil mechanics for underground structures and ground/structural interaction models for tunnels.
  • Structural design of underground and tunnel lining structures, writing design reports and estimating costs for projects.
  • Generation, interpretation of results and design of structural systems through 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional linear and non-linear Finite Element Analysis (FEA), using programs such as STRAND7, for above ground and below ground concrete and/or steel structures.
  • Design and analysis of temporary tunnel linings (including lattice girders, canopy tubes and steel sets in combination with plain shotcrete and reinforced shotcrete linings).
  • Design and analysis of permanent tunnel and cavern linings (including TBM segments, cast in place tunnel linings and steel and fiber reinforced concrete tunnels and other underground structures).
