Senior transport planner

The Integrated Transport Division are seeking an experienced and motivated transport planning professional to join their growing team in Cardiff to assist in the delivery of projects to clients across the UK and around the world. This is an opportunity for excellent personal and professional development.

In this role you will be involved in policy and planning development and review, stakeholder and public engagement and development of innovative and compelling solutions to issues of congestion through the implementation of sustainable transport planning measures. You should have the ability to be responsive and flexible to the changing dynamic of a variety of client requirements.

Job Description

The primary focus of the role is to deliver on-the-ground transport planning interventions across a range of clients in Wales and the South West.
However, there is a growing portfolio of international work across the Integrated Transport Division and there may be the opportunity to work overseas at times.

The ability to build strong client relationship is crucial to the success of our work. The successful candidate will work with both public and private sector organisations, giving an exciting range of opportunities.
Candidates are expected to show leadership in their approach to work, and will be expected to manage projects in due course.

You will have proven track record in delivery of transport planning measures to a diverse and varied audience, and confidence in delivering complex solutions in an engaging way. A good undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (such as transport planning, geography or similar) are required, and a post-graduate qualification is strongly desired. Membership of appropriate professional institutions, whilst not essential, would be beneficial.


Candidate Specification

Essential competencies / skills:
  • Experience in the delivery of transport planning and sustainable travel initiatives to a wide variety of agencies
  • Development planning and transport assessment work
  • Transport scheme appraisal and strategy development
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to prepare high quality written technical notes, reports, and presentations
  • Flexibility in working environment, a can-do attitude and the ability to work independently
  • Experience of survey techniques
Desirable competencies / skills:
  • Understanding of the transport scheme appraisal process in the UK, including WebTAG
  • Knowledge of TEMPRo, TRICS, and junction modelling software
  • Experience in GIS is desirable
