Project Manager - International Health

We provide consultancy services in international health development, in areas such as Infectious Diseases, Monitoring and Evaluation, Reproductive Maternal and Child Health, Health Systems Strengthening and Finance and more. The main clients include DFID, World Health Organisation as well as other UN organisations, charitable foundations, World Bank, EC and regional banks, global health partnerships, and international NGOs.

This role will be responsible for ensuring effective project implementation, through all aspects of project management, including financial and contractual management, as well as providing bid management and coordination support as required. The Project Manager is responsible for supporting Assistant Project Managers and sharing the best commercial and operational practice, as well as driving procedures and standards in project management. This role will involve working closely with Technical Specialists, Assistant Project Managers, Project Administrators and Commercial Managers.

Job Description

You will be responsible for:
  • Working closely with the Team Leader to help develop the project team through leadership and mentoring
  • Supporting the ongoing planning processes, project work plans, budgets and action plans.
  • Overseeing the logistical arrangements of projects
  • Monitoring project work plans
  • Reviewing project progress at monthly project control meetings
  • Supporting completion of deliverables on time to agreed standards.
  • Preparing reports on project progress.
  • Driving the financial management and administration of the assignment
  • Liaising with clients and consultants on contract and budgetary negotiations
  • Supporting contract proposals and negotiations with clients
  • Establishing project budgets and financial control systems
  • Ensuring that all financial and contracts deadlines are met
  • Ensuring the production of regular financial reporting
  • Pursuing business development opportunities as they arise.
  • Acting as bid co-ordinator/manager by coordinating the bidding team’s work
  • Managing information collection and research support for proposals.
  • Collating and drafting inputs to the company experience sections of proposals.
  • Assisting with the production of bids as necessary

Candidate Specification

Essential academic, professional qualifications and experience:
  • Education to degree standard or equivalent.
  • Proven experience of managing complex development projects.
  • Experience of being responsible for the contractual management of projects
  • Knowledge of donor agency policy, processes and procedures.
  • Costing, budgeting and contract management experience.
  • Strong financial skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Strong management, organisational and co-ordination skills
  • Proven written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in a cross-cultural environment and to engage with stakeholders at all levels
The following skills and experience would be considered advantageous:
  • Experience or familiarity with working in the developing countries
  • Qualification in project management or related area
  • Experience/knowledge in the health sector and interest in developing technical knowledge
  • Willing and able to undertake occasional international travel (as required)
  • Previous experience of international aid management
  • Experience of preparation and coordination of tenders, with specific responsibilities for the commercial proposals
