Senior wastewater modeller

Job Profile

We are looking for talented and motivated wastewater modelling staff with a passion for quality and a determination to deliver to join our wastewater modelling team in Edinburgh. You will have a sufficient range and quality of modelling experience appropriate for the role being applied for.
For this Senior Modeller role, you will have good technical skills and a solid awareness of commercial and project management. You will have some design, engineering and construction knowledge that will support your modelling experience and you will be striving to further enhance your experience through a range of modelling projects.

We are operating in a JV partnership for the Technical Consultancy Framework as m2 JV.

Job Description

The role will involve leading some of the model maintenance projects or the modelling element of some of the flooding and UID projects.
With guidance and support from a Principal Modeller, you will plan, undertake work and co-ordinate the work of other modellers within the project team; monitor project tasks against budgets and programme and reporting to the Principal Modeller; be responsible for explaining to junior staff what is required for each task including the time/effort expected; nurture and provide technical coaching to junior members of the team; promote a strong awareness of and attitude towards the need for commercial success.
Checking the modelling done by other modellers in the project teams, as well as promoting a strong emphasis on self-checking, will be an essential part of your role.
Effective communication with all team members is also essential.

Acting as part of the UK-wide wastewater modelling team, you will gain support from like-minded modellers with a wide range of experience and gain exposure to the work we do across the UK for all our clients.
You will help to provide guidance and support to junior modellers throughout Mott MacDonald and you may be involved in the wider delivery of projects to all our clients.
You will also get involved in further developing the effectiveness of the wider UK team.

You may wish to lead and manage a team of junior modellers and technicians although this is not essential. A gift for delivering classroom or online training sessions would be very welcome.

Candidate Specification

The successful candidate will preferably be qualified to degree level and chartered. You will also be a good organiser with multi-tasking and problem-solving skills; an effective coacher and communicator; able to explain your thought processes in a logical and coherent fashion in both oral presentations and written reports. You are likely to have at least 5 years' wastewater modelling experience.

In addition, you will also have experience of:
  • InfoWorks CS / ICM
  • Model Build, verification and needs assessment
  • Scoping and managing asset, CCTV and flow surveys
  • Flood alleviation schemes
  • UID solution development
  • GIS software (preferably MapInfo)
  • Reviewing and checking the work of others

The ideal candidate will also have experience of:
  • Project management of modelling projects
  • Integrated ID / 2D modelling
  • Water quality modelling
  • Sewer rehabilitation
  • SUDS
