Senior Project Engineer - Electrical Controls

Job Description

The Mott MacDonald Electrical Group is on track to becoming one of the nation’s leading electrical engineering consultancy groups. The electrical engineering group is in a growth phase at present which provides excellent opportunities for all staff from the junior electrical engineer to the seasoned electrical project manager. Designs are always completed to the highest ethical standards and include high levels of sustainable design.

The electrical group is a handpicked gathering of electrical engineers with a deep and diversified mix of electrical skills. We have been gathered to provide the best designs and advice for our clients in infrastructure and the built environment.

The candidate will be responsible for items listed in the candidate specification.

Additionally:

1. Development of control system plans in the area of water & waste water treatment, tunneling, and building systems.
2. Develop control system construction cost estimates
3. Oversee control system construction commissioning and startup
4. Oversee control system construction projects
5. Review controls system shop drawings
6. Operate as the Control System Engineer of Record for projects
7. Troubleshoot projects and assist teams with difficulties
8. Coordinate multidisciplinary team effort to deliver first class outcome

Candidate Specification

10-15+ Years experience in Electrical Controls with the following skills listed below.

Management & Leadership:
  • Have experience managing junior engineers
  • Have experience in responding to government and local municipal “RFP” relating to control engineering services
  • Have experience in making presentations relating to RFP responses
  • Have experience developing scopes and fees related to governmental control system projects
  • Have a proven track record of successful financial management of control engineering projects
  • Review and junior engineer designs and reports and provide quality assurance and quality control
Communications:
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Have the ability to write engineering reports and specifications
  • Have the ability to make formal and informal presentations to customers and potential customers
  • Experience chairing meetings and recording meetings professionally
Design:
  • Control Systems
  • Knowledgeable in ISA standards
  • Development of PID drawings
  • Design experience in industrial computer networking
  • Voice communications systems design experience (VoIP, POTS, notification systems)
  • Data Communications Systems design experience (fiber optic networks, fiber optic testing methods, Ethernet communications, other industrial communications)
  • Familiarity with Radio Based Telemetry Systems
  • Familiarity with Cellular
    based data communications.
  • PLC and SCADA design
  • Instrumentation selection and specification
  • Development of control system sequence of operation and functional narratives
  • Development of electrical ladder/elementary diagrams for control systems
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit MEP

Construction Services:
  • Be able to review and coordinate the review of shop drawings related to control system construction
  • Be able to resolve construction related control system issues
  • Be able to supervise and inspect control systems project startups in the field
  • Strong networking experience with networking certification preferred
  • Programming of PLC's, SCADA Systems and relational databases preferred

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from four-year college or university or equivalent required.
Professional Engineering (PE) License preferred, with the ability to obtain a PE in other states within one year.
