Mott MacDonald is a multi-disciplined engineering and advisory consultancy, with a significant presence in the East Coast transportation and infrastructure realm. For nearly two decades we have been providing Consulting Engineering Services in the Washington DC Metro area. Our continued and sustained growth has resulted in the hiring of many key positions over the past year in our Arlington, Virginia Office, located about 2.5 miles from the downtown area.

We are currently immersed in a major transportation program with a key DC transit client. We are seeking to hire a deputy program manager to support this program. This is a unique opportunity to join a team undertaking a long-term, systems upgrade program, working in a position with professional advancement potential.

Job Description

The suitable candidate will be a career minded professional engineer with aspirations of developing their career in program management. The candidate will have some background in transit/rail, project management, and engineering design in a related discipline.

The deputy program manager role is multi-faceted, with the primary aim to support the program manager with the effective delivery and management of Mott MacDonald’s term contract. Some of the key responsibilities of the position would include:
  • Assist in preparing documents necessary to administer the contract; including proposals, work orders, and other contract instruments.
  • Gain knowledge of and effectively use Mott MacDonald management systems, tracking documents, and related procedures.
  • Attend meetings, in conjunction with the program manager, with the client and with subconsultants.
  • Assist in managing personnel working within the team.
  • Review payment requests.
  • Prepare reports as required.
  • Document in-progress activities and track deliverables associated with the contract as directed.
In addition, as part of the individual’s professional role with Mott MacDonald, the position would entail the following:
  • Work to engage our customers, and undertake business development activities
  • Become adept at Mott MacDonald programs including risk management systems, project management systems, project controls systems, bidding systems
  • Work in correlation with teams regarding proposal development in various geographical markets of the company
  • Use professional engineering skills to lead portions of the technical work, in a way that is advantageous for both the company and the professional
Become adept at program management techniques such that future roles with the company would involve increased responsibility

Candidate Specification

We’re looking for an individual to join our team to continue our success in the DC area, in North America, and worldwide, and invite applications from candidates with:
  • Approximately 15 to 20 years of professional engineering experience, with 10 years of consulting engineering experience. Project management experience is desirable.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relatable discipline and a Professional Engineer (PE) license, with the ability to obtain licensure in DC, the State of Virginia, and Maryland.
  • Engineering experience managing a core transit related competency a plus, with experience in a lead role on projects where the individual served in a responsible position.
  • Experience working with government agencies.
  • Experience with document control, spreadsheets, and data management.
  • Excellent communication and written skills.
