Mott MacDonald’s Altrincham Office is situated just to the south of Central Manchester with good tram, rail and road links making commuting from anywhere within the North West relatively straight forward.
The office is within a short walk of the recently refurbished local Stamford Quarter shopping centre and Altrincham’s local market.

We are seeking a high calibre, chartered civil engineer to grow our established team which will and support the delivery of prestigious railway projects across the North West of England including the Northern Hub and schemes to create the Northern Powerhouse.

Job Description

The successful candidate will enjoy the variety of work we are able to offer and also benefit from the positive training support that we provide towards developing their career and achieving a professional qualification under a structured ICE training scheme
This post is working as an Engineer within the Altrincham office as technical support to internal project managers and external clients. We also provide potential opportunity to rotate through our various engineering business streams to ensure you develop a broad range of skills.

Examples of tasks included in the role:
  • Involvement in a project or a small portfolio of projects of various sizes from conception through to completion;
  • Assessing and understanding project requirements;
  • Coordinating solutions with various engineering discipline teams;
  • Preparation of designs, documents and reports;
  • Nearing attainment of professional qualifications;
  • Having an appreciation of the roles of fellow professionals on multidisciplinary projects and interfacing and coordinating with them appropriately;
  • Developing BIM skills through 3D modelling;
  • Undertake site inspections and survey

Candidate Specification

The successful candidate will have the following:
  • A MEng degree with a grade of 2:2 or above in civil engineering;
  • A genuine interest in railways, with relevant post-graduate experience;
  • High level of IT literacy and numeracy skills;
  • The ability to be adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • The ability to confidently build and maintain external and internal relationships;
  • The ability to produce clear and logical written communication;
  • A practical approach to problem solving;
  • Will be highly motivated to learn on the job as well as undertake training
