Lead CAD & BIM Modeller

Mott MacDonald are seeking a Lead CAD Lead and BIM Modeller to be part of our Infrastructure design team in Norwich. The successful candidate will utilise their skills and experience across a broad range of projects in both the public and private sectors, with clients such as Highways England, Network Rail and Local Authorities.

Job Description

As an experienced Lead CAD and BIM Modeller, working within our Infrastructure team in Norwich, you will be expected to work in collaboration with our sister offices in London, Croydon, Cambridge, Brighton and Southampton as well as our offices in the wider UK and overseas. The role will be varied as well as demanding and challenging, but provides an opportunity to develop your own career within Mott MacDonald.
Key elements of the role are:
  • Technical excellence
    • Producing engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Microstation software
    • You will promote the use of Mott MacDonald’s internal CAD Standard and ensure that it is used in accordance with our internal management system.
    • Undertake 3D modelling using Civil3D, Revit and AECOsim and delivery of models in Navisworks or similar.
    • Be familiar with working in Common Data Environments, developing BIM Execution Plans and ensuring compliance of models. You will be familiar with BS 1192 and “Levels of Development”/ “Levels of Information”.
    • Working on a range of projects of varying size and scale across both the public and private sectors throughout the project lifecycle
    • You will be required to work autonomously in undertaking your project elements
    • Ensuring delivery of assigned project work without the need for re-work, on time and to budget
    • Providing expert advice into project technology planning
  • Client satisfaction
    • Working with a variety of Public and Private clients ranging from Local Authorities to multinational companies.
    • Working for a range of internal Clients across the different business units within Mott MacDonald
    • Working on projects of both local and national significance and importance
  • Team working and collaboration
    • Provision of guidance and mentoring to junior members of staff in relation to CAD management, standards and good practice
    • Work collaboratively with fellow CAD users to promote Best Practice and share knowledge and working experiences of the development of BIM Models, for example the use of Family Structures or Coding and Data Shortcuts.
    • You will support the team leaders / project managers to maintain a delivery culture
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of suitable BIM processes and technology and support their adoption across the office and the wider Infrastructure practice
    • You will be expected to lead CAD teams through all phases of a project
    • Proactive approach to project and technical challenges
    • Providing positive leadership in Health & Safety
    • Ensuring compliance with corporate governance
    • Reporting issues to the Team Leader
    • Delegation of assigned tasks to other members of the CAD team as necessary

Candidate Specification

As a successful Infrastructure professional, the ideal candidate will have:
  • High proficiency in the use of Auto CAD and / or Civils 3D
  • Competence in BIM modelling and the interfaces with CAD
  • A demonstrable track-record in infrastructure design projects.
  • Technically astute, with some experience of mentoring and developing junior staff members
  • Knowledge of infrastructure design standards and sound engineering principles.
  • A confident communicator with good verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of working across multi-discipline designs. We require a combination of the following competencies / skills:
    • Understanding design standards including: DMRB / SHW / Manual for Streets
    • Knowledge of highway design principals
    • Experience of engineering design calculations
    • Knowledge and experience of using design tools, for example: AutoCAD and Civil 3D, MicroStation and AECOsim, MicroDrainage, Infraworks and Tekla Structures.
    • Knowledge of the use of BIM to coordinate design inputs
    • Problem solving, offering solutions to challenges
  • Capability to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required
  • Experience of preparing detailed construction drawings and standard details and Technical Specifications
  • Understanding personal Health and Safety responsibilities.
  • The candidate must be able to attain UK Security clearance for working on secure / sensitive projects
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Be prepared to work away from home as required
Minimum qualifications:
  • BTEC Level 3 / NVQ Civil Engineering (or related subject)
You should also be:
  • Working towards Eng Tech TMICE or IEng MICE
