Graduate Engineering Geologist

Mott MacDonald seek a Graduate Engineering Geologist to join its “Buildings and Infrastructure” team in Norwich in order to support growing levels of business.

Job Description

Based in Mott MacDonald’s Norwich Office you will be required to work in a small but expanding team, involved on a range of small to large projects across both the public and private sectors.

You will be working with a variety of Public and Private Clients ranging from Local Authorities to Multinational companies, on a range of projects that carry both local and national significance and importance.

You will be required to work autonomously within the growing team carrying out a variety of tasks including desk studies, Ground Investigation (GI) scopes and specifications, supervision of GI, production of Ground Investigation reports, and Geotechnical Design Reports which will involve a level of new build design.

Candidate Specification

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A Strong Bachelors and Masters Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology or a similar subject.
  • Experience in describing and classifying rocks and soil, preferentially to the latest recognised standards.
  • An understanding of the engineering implications and hazards associated with differing geological terrains and various rock and soil types.
  • The ability to undertake geological mapping and produce cross-sections and ground models with an appreciation of the engineering relevance.
  • An understanding of and ideally experience in supervising site investigation works, with a good knowledge of the potential techniques available.
  • An awareness and/or understanding of EC7, and other relevant standards with respect to geotechnical design and reporting.
  • Good analytical and report writing skills, effective in both verbal and written communication.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition, and be self-motivated with good organisational capability.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to be outward facing.
  • Candidate must be able to attain UK Security clearance for working on secure / sensitive projects.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Be prepared to work away from home as required.
