Structures project director - Defence

Job Profile

We are recruiting a Structures Project Director – Defence to lead our programme of buildings projects at Faslane and across the wider defence estate in Scotland and Northern Ireland. These are prestigious, high-profile projects with interfaces with complex and unconventional user requirements with one of our key clients. The team you will lead will vary to suit the programme of work but will consist of 30+ staff

Job Description

You will provide leadership across the programme of projects, with overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the programme which will be at different stages of the project lifecycle.

You will have overall responsibility for the successful commercial delivery of the projects, reporting to the Glasgow Principal Account Leader and Defence Framework Manager.

You will be able to provide clear technical leadership, know what looks right and provide positive challenge to our team, client and stakeholders.

You will develop relationships with some of our key clients ensuring that they are briefed on the key issues and risks across the programme and how these are to be managed and mitigated.

You will develop business from within the defence sector specifically as well as other sectors.

Candidate Specification

You will have/be:
  • A successful track record of delivering major multi-disciplinary buildings projects or programmes of work from inception through to completion on time and within budget and fee.
  • Able to develop a strong relationship with clients and project team members, giving them confidence that you and your team can deliver their projects.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical detail to a non-technical audience
  • Motivated, inspirational and be capable of leading by example.
  • A strong technical knowledge of building structures and how buildings work and are constructed.
  • Knowledge of current industry standards and software applications
  • A chartered structural or civil engineer
  • A track record of building and managing project teams, providing motivation and opportunity skills development for all staff
  • Preferably, experience of working on defence estates or similar secure sites
  • UK nationality to comply with MoD security clearance requirements. As this is a UK defence based position this vacancy is exempt from Equality Act 2010 legislation
