Ecologist/ Senior ecologist

Job Profile

Our environment team provides consultancy services to all sectors with the company, including power, water, rail, transportation and building services, including ecological services. We have been significantly enhancing our ecological consultancy capabilities and the ecology team now has a wide diversity of biodiversity skills and competencies. We are currently looking for an experienced ecologist to join the ecology team, initially for maternity cover, with a view to make the role permanent. You would join us as a senior ecologist, or as an ecologist
who could progress in the short term into a senior ecologist in the team.

The role will be based in our Bristol office.

Job Description

You would be required to assist in the continued delivery of specialist ecological consultancy services. The ecology team provides a wide range of specialist ecological support to internal and external clients and has an increasing workload within both the transportation and development sectors. The team is currently looking to expand to meet its current and future commitments. Initially this role would be for maternity cover for 6 months, however we would look to make the role permanent.

Your duties will principally involve the resourcing and provision of ecological surveys and assessments and assistance in the everyday running of the ecology team, including (for the more senior role) business development, bid preparation, and supervision and mentoring of junior staff.

Candidate Specification

For you to be considered for this role you must have the following:

•Degree in ecology or directly related subject.
•Proven experience as an ecologist in a consultancy environment.
•You will have a protected species licence and will have acted as an accredited agent on a development licence.
•Experienced in liaising with regulatory bodies to negotiate and obtain consents.
•Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
•High level of personal responsibility.
•Adaptable and flexible approach to different project requirements.
•A proven track record of project and bid management.
•Participatory experience of statutory environmental assessment procedures
•Mentoring skills for junior staff.
•EcIA experience to CIEEM standard
•Strong report writing skills.
•Proficient in Word and Excel.
•Driving licence.
•Full CIEEM membership
