Job Description

Our Charleston, WV office currently has an opening for a Senior Project Manager - Transportation Lead- to lead and grow a transportation group and actively pursue and manage transportation projects in the local Charleston, WV area.
  • Provides administrative and technical management over transportation projects.
  • Responsible for design, production and delivery of transportation projects.
  • Responsible for establishing and periodically reviewing time-and-hour budgets and meeting those budgets on the projects he or she personally manages.
  • Periodically reviews project schedule and progress on the projects he or she personally manages.
  • Outlines more difficult problems and methods of approach for other engineers.
  • Supervises or coordinates several varied assignments simultaneously.
  • Maintains liaison with individuals outside the firm.
  • Identifies potential business development with existing clients and takes an active or lead role in the proposal process.
  • Assists in the preparation of the marketing plan.
  • Contacts prospective clients, determines their needs.
  • Supervises process of putting together a proposal.
  • Orchestrates the presentation and selects the internal group which will make the presentation.
  • Arms presentation team with the information they will need to make a successful presentation
  • Presents contract to client for signature.
  • Maintains continued relationship with client after project is finished to assure securing future work the client may have.
  • Reviews and analyzes a variety of scientific data to determine requirements to meet objectives.
  • Assists client as required to monitor performance of contractors.
  • Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more-diverse project.
  • Serves as the firm's responsible contact with specific clients.
  • Applies intensive/diversified knowledge of engineering/scientific principals/practices in broad areas of assignment and related fields.
  • Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.
  • Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project.
  • Seeks technical support for tasks outside his/her area of expertise

Candidate Specification

This outstanding career opportunity is for a highly motivated, outgoing, talented and experienced Senior Project Manager.
  • The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, or similar with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • The successful candidate must be a Registered Professional Engineer in the West Virginia or have the ability to obtain registration within 6 months.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in engineering with experience in management of transportation engineering projects (Highway, Bridge, or Rail/Transit) is also required.
  • West Virginia DOT or other local client project experience required.
  • They must have the ability to interface with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams of professionals from all disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, GIS and CADD on multi-discipline projects.
  • Candidates must have familiarity with relevant design codes and possess an understanding of design software used by West Virginia DOH.
    Experience with MS Office Suite Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint is also a must.
  • They must have the ability to manage projects and personnel, including engineering professionals.
  • The successful candidate is expected to identify junior staff and be a mentor and technical resource for that junior staff.
