Job Description

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Project Manager in the Pensacola, FL office. This person must be able to work under general supervision from senior project managers and technical leads and will serve as project manager or assistant project manager in the execution of water and wastewater projects including planning, design, permitting and construction of water and wastewater plants, water and sewer pipelines, reclaimed water facilities, pump stations, and other water resources type projects. This person will also assist with the marketing and business development efforts in the local and regional area.

Essential Responsibilities:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Under direction of the Senior Project Manager, assists in the completion and execution of a variety of
    projects a variety of projects ranging in total fee of $50,000 to $500,000+.
  • Ability to schedule projects, coordinate other disciplines and subcontractors. Periodically reviews project schedule and progress on the projects he or she is assigned.
  • Outlines problems and methods of approach for other engineers in the successful execution of projects.
  • Assists in the completion and execution of several varied assignments simultaneously. Must be able to multi-task several assignments and/or deliverables.
  • Reviews and analyzes a variety of scientific data to determine requirements to meet objectives.
  • Ability to setup project budgets to meet client expectations and which are profitable to the firm. Ability to effectively scope and budget new projects.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering or scientific principals and practices in broad areas of assignment and related fields.
  • Will be required to prepare reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, and designs for project.
  • Will seek technical support for tasks outside his/her area of expertise.
  • Must be active in professional organizations within the engineering field and desire to strengthen Mott MacDonald’s brand in Florida and surrounding area.
  • Lead and/or assist in the pursuit of new projects involving request for proposals with clients, including technical writing of approaches.
  • Mentor junior staff on fundamentals and general project management skills.
  • Will develop relationships with existing and potential clients in effort to grow the local Water and Wastewater practice.

Candidate Specification

  • Bachelor's Degree (B. S.) or equivalent in Civil, Environmental or Mechanical Engineering. (Masters degree a plus)
  • 10+ years experience in Water or Wastewater engineering with focus on design and infrastructure.
  • Water or Wastewater project management experience working directly with clients and sub-contractors, working with budgets, technical writing/reports, and reviewing project schedules.
  • Experience with pursuits and proposals with Water/Wastewater clients preferred.
  • Supervise and provide direction to junior and mid-level Water/Wastewater staff.
  • Must be able to interact with several different clients in the execution of projects.
  • Should be a self starter with good communication skills able to work effectively with both internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation skills are a plus.
  • Must be a registered engineer in the state of Florida or be able to obtain Florida PE within first 3 months.
  • Must have ability to travel to clients and job sites and be willing to attend meetings after regular business hours.
