Running a sustainable business

Running a business responsibly is key to its long-term sustainability. All decisions we make, whether regarding the governance and strategy of our company or about the planning, design, and delivery of projects, have consequences for society. Sustainability is at the heart of corporate social responsibility (CSR). It helps us ensure that those consequences are positive, adding value for our clients and the communities we work in.

5Core values: progress, respect, integrity, drive, excellence

Mott MacDonald has a long and proud ethos – and a strong track record – of pursuing continuous improvement across a number of key measures: customer satisfaction, environmental performance, staff engagement, community benefit, and risk management. The behaviors on which CSR is built are enshrined in our core PRIDE values of Progress, Respect, Integrity, Drive, Excellence.

As we work towards integrated reporting, we are already applying integrated thinking principles to how we run the business, taking account of the connectivity and interdependencies between our internal and external environments and the range of factors that affect our ability to create value over time.

Our vision is to be a leading global partner in advancing sustainability. This can be achieved only if we stay close to our stakeholders. We have an ongoing global process of engaging with our customers on sustainability, asking them about their expectations, issues, and objectives.

Different priorities appear in our different technical and geographic operational regions. However, some common issues stand out: scarcity of skills and knowledge, carbon reduction to achieve cost efficiency, climate resilience, creation of social and economic value, sustainable procurement, realizing the potential of emerging technologies, and effective leadership. Our aim is to work with clients to address challenges and realize their goals.

We seek to use our ingenuity to deliver lasting value for all – for our customers, for our people, and for the communities we work in.
