About the business unit

 

The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering fantastic opportunities to get involved in diverse and technically challenging work. Overview of role


We are looking for a technical leader to be responsible for technical direction and quality, whether applying innovative thinking to new or established services or developing your own concepts from scratch. Alongside the technical role, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in project management and business development through engaging with our water sector and regulatory framework clients. 

 

You will lead need definition, option identification and assessment, feasibility assessments, concept design and detailed design of solutions for catchment management and wastewater treatment. These solutions will include established NBS such as facultative lagoons, reedbeds, vertical flow and horizontal flow constructed wetlands as well as recent developments such as Integrated Constructed Wetlands (ICWs), floating treatment wetlands, the application of constructed wetlands for storm water and Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) treatment, and Natural Flood Management and SuDS to manage flows in the network. As a Nature Based Solutions Specialist, your remit will cover a range of technical, management and commercial/client-facing activities.

 

In this role you will:

  • Provide technical leadership in NBS in the water environment, driving innovation and efficiencies and maintaining our reputation in the industry 
  • Oversee projects, ensuring timely, cost-effective delivery of high-quality project outcomes
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary project team including treatment, civil engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, landscape, ecology, climate, social and operational specialist teams
  • Build and manage strong and strategic partnerships with clients 
  • Engage stakeholders in the planning, design and delivery of NBS and work collaboratively with partners
  • Support, mentor and train early careers colleagues
  • Drive thought leadership, technical excellence and knowledge sharing

 

Candidate specification


Essential

  • A clear passion for nature-based solutions
  • Industry leading technical experience and a desire to share this with others
  • Chartered (or near Chartership) with an appropriate professional body

 

Desirable

  • Strong understanding of processes design principals in wastewater treatment particularly with reference to Nature-based Solutions
  • Ability to apply recognised process models to size NbS options for wastewater treatment
  • Experience applying NbS and mixed conventional/NbS solutions.
  • Drive to be at the forefront the strategic development of this growing service in Mott MacDonald
  • Proven ability to develop a workstream in nature-based solutions
  • Professional consultancy experience in nature-based solutions
  • Proven track record in delivering projects, business development and winning bids
  • Familiarity with the relevant legislation and regulation
