We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to support our Canadian Geotechnical Group in Vancouver. In this position you will work alongside our bridges, rail, and tunnel engineers on local, national and global projects. You will also benefit from and contribute to our dynamic cross-cutting global geotechnical practice and its network of specialist subject matter experts. In this environment, you will be encouraged to develop your technical and management skills through producing technical papers, contributing to technical forums and being involved with digital and innovative initiatives championed by the geotechnical practice.   

  


As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, your responsibilities would include:   


 

  • Developing design solutions and associated deliverables for a range of geotechnical projects from early planning through design and construction.  

  • Performing technical analysis, calculation and design for shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, seismic and seepage studies. 

  • Leading the design, implementation, coordination and oversight of medium to large exploration programs. 

  • Working alongside other internal technical practices to deliver projects through collaboration and an integrated design approach 

  • Leading and supervising the work of more junior staff (engineers and technicians) and providing technical and professional guidance to aid their development. 

  • Providing project management and technical oversight including mentoring team members and setting high standards for professionalism and quality. 

  • Planning and managing resources to deliver assignments within the required schedules and assigned budgets.  

  • Overseeing the planning and management of projects to ensure that work is fit for purpose, completed on schedule and within budget.  

  • Working with new and existing clients to identify opportunities and develop new business as part of our ongoing growth strategy. 

  • Supporting the company in winning future projects through business development efforts and proposal delivery. 

  • Demonstrating a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous learning in a collaborative team environment. 

  • Liaising with the client, attending progress meetings and producing reports on progress. 

  • Advancing the team’s capability by advancing technical excellence and digital innovation. 

 

Candidate Specifications 

 

The right candidate is a versatile and creative thinker who can lead teams of engineers to provide practical solutions to complex problems.  
 

The candidate must have the following experience:  


 

  • 10-15 years of geotechnical engineering experience, with an emphasis on transportation, transit, heavy civil and energy infrastructure (design management experience would be considered an asset).  

  • A strong academic background, with a Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (a master’s degree would be considered an asset). 

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC). 

  • Strong background providing geotechnical support for design of complex structures, as well as experience with the Canadian Foundation Engineering Manual, CSA Codes, National Building Code and Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code. 

  • Experience with design-bid-build delivery (experience with alternative procurement models such as DB and PDB would be considered an asset). 

  • A team player who is self-motivated and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment. 

  • Strong understanding of relevant technologies including Plaxis, Rocscience software, GeoStudio, Leapfrog, LPile. (experience of advanced laboratory testing and dynamic SSI modeling to support seismic engineering would be considered an asset). 

  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff and clients and nurture the development of junior staff 

  • Ability and enthusiasm for supervising the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $130,000 - $160,000.
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
