Overview of role
We are currently looking for a Principal Climate Change Consultant, specialising in Decarbonisation to strengthen our strategic advisory team in the UK. The role will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer opportunities for skill set and career development.

 

With significant opportunities emerging, Mott MacDonald is looking for a progressive and focussed individual to work with our clients, both directly and alongside other account leaders, to help drive their transition to net zero carbon across their operations. We are seeking someone who is adaptable and flexible to drive advisory work that ranges from; strategic visioning, scheme appraisal, business case development, through procurement and into project delivery. Furthermore, we would expect an individual accomplished in supporting the work of staff, and providing technical and professional guidance.

 

There is an expectation that this role will shape and develop just as the team of capability also matures making this an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference whilst being part of something remains progressive and impactful. More specifically, the role includes the following: 

  • Provide strategic technical leadership in decarbonisation for projects and programmes;
  • Support business development related activities, identifying opportunities/prospects to allow us to prepare/position the team to produce winning proposals for other work;
  • Collaborate with other teams within Mott MacDonald to deliver a one team ethos and approach to delivering and embedding operational and embodied carbon management and climate resilience within future services;
  • Prepare contracts, framework and individual bid submissions;
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time and on budget in line with Mott MacDonald’s commercial and financial requirements, while ensuring client expectations are met;
  • Support the wider strategic advisory and technical design teams in developing and delivering projects from inception to handover and completion; this will include strategy setting, scheme definition, feasibility studies, business case development and portfolio as well as project-level advice for clients.


Candidate Specification
Essential

  • Strategic mindset with an ability and skill to delve into detail when necessary;
  • An attitude and desire to help clients on a journey towards alignment to net zero legislation, embedding a response to the climate emergency within the principles of decision making;
  • Chartered with a relevant professional body;
  • Asset decarbonisation pathway analysis, and reporting;
  • Familiarity with major climate reporting frameworks, decarbonisation policy and legislative drivers in the UK and international setting;
  • Experience in a Client-facing role, and ability to influence senior level stakeholders;  
  • Experience with providing corporate-level strategic decarbonisation advice to clients;
  • A range of report writing, and visual and verbal presentation techniques; 
  • Ability to work in diverse multidisciplinary teams;
  • Willingness and ability to work on range of projects and scopes;  
  • Experience with commercial management of projects of different sizes;
  • Experience with contracts review and risk analysis in relation to contracts;

 

Desirable

  • Ability and experience of leading more junior members of staff.
  • Knowledge and awareness of wider sustainability and climate change topics, such as nature-based solutions, circular economy, social value, responsible sourcing and others as they relate to the decarbonisation of buildings.
  • Awareness of the Technical Advisory market and services
