Collectively the board brings worldwide management and operations experience across diverse industry backgrounds to its remit of continually advancing our employee-owned business in line with our vision, mission and values, and protecting the company’s long-term stability and vitality. The board is held to account by our employee shareholders.
Keith became our chairman on 1 January 2011 and now leads the drive to further build our business and improve our performance for our customers and staff. During Keith’s tenure as managing director from 2004 to 2010, the Group saw major expansion and crossed the £1bn revenue threshold.
Keith first joined the board in 2002 with responsibility for our quality, environment and safety systems, human resources and IT. Previously, he led the Group's worldwide business in water and environment.
Keith's 40-year career with the Group has seen him working on projects in over 20 countries. He was elected Chairman of the UK’s Association for Consultancy and Engineering for its centenary year in 2013. In 2013 he was appointed to the UK government’s National Infrastructure Plan Strategic Engagement Forum and the Construction Industrial Strategy Advisory Council. Keith is also a member of the CBI’s Construction Council and sits on the Cranfield School of Management advisory board.
Mike was appointed managing director in January 2017 and is responsible for the day-to-day management and operational performance of our global business.
Mike first joined the board in 2013. Most recently, he was managing director of our Europe and Africa region which has over 7000 staff and revenue in excess of £820 million.
Prior to this, Mike was the Regional Managing Director the Middle East and South Asia and before that a director in our water and environment team and manager of our water business where he was instrumental in developing relationships with partners and clients to create integrated delivery teams.
With over 30 years’ experience, Mike has a strong background in the general management, planning and implementation of large infrastructure projects, with particular expertise in the water sector.
Mike is also a director of Mott MacDonald Bentley, our multi-award winning integrated design and build contractor.
Guy became the Group’s strategic development director in July 2014 after leading our multi-sector regional business across Europe, the UK and Africa since January 2011.
Prior to this Guy's remit included eight years leading our management, economics and consultancy business – ranging from construction economics and project/programme management to infrastructure finance and business technology consulting – as well as worldwide responsibility for learning and development, internal communications and property. Guy is especially experienced in cross-cultural management, the migration of project delivery approaches between industry sectors and the development of partnering/alliancing arrangements and major framework agreements.
Guy’s career began in 1977, when he joined the cost consultancy/project management business of Franklin + Andrews (F+A), becoming chief executive in 1996. When F+A joined us in 2002, Guy was appointed managing director of what was the start of our global multi-sector management consultancy business.
Ian Galbraith, Mott MacDonald board member
Ian was appointed to the board in January 2018 and is responsible for the Group’s operations globally.
Ian joined Mott MacDonald in 2002 leading the Programme Management Division. He subsequently took responsibility in 2010 for the Groups’ Europe, Russia and Africa businesses, moving in 2016 to the APNA Regional General Manager position across Asia-Pacific and Australasia based out of the Singapore office. In his new role he takes global responsibility for much of our Corporate Services especially Group Systems, BMS governance, Human Resources and Risk.
James Harris, Mott MacDonald board member
James is currently responsible for Mott MacDonald’s operations in the UK and Europe and was appointed to the board in January 2018.
A chartered civil engineer, James joined Mott MacDonald in 1990. Prior to his current role, James was managing director of Mott MacDonald’s water and environment business. He is a long serving director of our design and build joint venture company Mott MacDonald Bentley and a director of our construction business Bentley Holdings. James serves on the UK Government Green Construction Board’s Infrastructure Working Group and is an active member of the UK Water Partnership leadership team. During his early career, he was involved in numerous infrastructure projects in both the UK and Hong Kong.
Ed Roud was appointed the Group's finance director and elected to the Group Board on 1 January 2014.
Ed joined Mott MacDonald in 1999 as the Group's financial controller and was appointed financial officer in 2005 responsible for the financial strategy and development of the Mott MacDonald Group worldwide. He also assisted the Board on a wider set of operational initiatives outside finance which led to his appointment to the Board in 2014.
In his role as finance director, Ed manages shareholder funds and borrowings, implements the strategy for group funding and financial performance and is responsible for the management of financial risk. He works with the rest of the Board to optimise the Group’s profitability and use of capital, to maximise shareholder value and to meet the expectations of other stakeholder.
Ed is a chartered accountant and holds an MA (Hons) Economics degree from Edinburgh University. He started his career with Deloitte, working in audit and corporate finance. Prior to joining Mott MacDonald, Ed spent four years at ICI as corporate reporting manager. His experience prior to joining the Group has brought a wider perspective in developing some of the company’s recent financial initiatives.
Nick was appointed to the board in April 2016 and is responsible for our business in North America. Prior to this, Nick was President and CEO of Hatch Mott MacDonald, a joint venture company established in 1996 by Mott MacDonald and Hatch to take advantage of infrastructure opportunities in North America. He guided the company through an extraordinary period of growth and profitability.
A professional engineer with over 40 years of experience and a specialty in water and wastewater, Nick has become a widely respected leader in the profession, frequently quoted by Engineering News-Record, Civil Engineering, and other publications. He is a leading voice on behalf of safe engineering practices, technical innovation, and the importance of designing for resilience in a time of increasingly severe weather.
Nick is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a recipient of ASCE’s prestigious Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Award and John I. Parcel–Leif J. Sverdrup Civil Engineering Management Award. He is a recipient of the George Warren Fuller Award from the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for his distinguished professional and volunteer service in the water field.
Nick is a member of the ASCE Industry Leaders Council, a past Chair of the New Jersey Section of AWWA, and a past Chair of the Newark College of Engineers Board of Visitors. He is a member of the ASCE Design Professionals Coalition, the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Board of Overseers, the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Innovation Institute, and Rutgers University’s New Jersey Climate Adaptation Advisory Committee.
