Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Job Profile

Cardiff office is known for the diverse portfolio of projects we undertake. It is situated just moments from centre of Cardiff and Queen Street station. Working in this office you will have the opportunity to work on geotechnical projects directly and provide technical support to our water, environmental, power, buildings, rail, bridges and highways design teams. With our project portfolio being diverse there is the opportunity to work on schemes ranging from wind farms and nuclear power stations to flood alleviation schemes and ecological surveys as well as highways and transportation schemes and building projects.

We are currently working on various projects, including Totnes Flood Protection scheme, the A40 highways scheme, flood resilience projects in the southwest of England, preparation bridge works for the GWR electrification and Velindre Cancer Hospital.

Job Description

The successful candidate will undertake the design of specialist geotechnical structures and provide geotechnical design support to the broader Mott MacDonald Cardiff office. The candidate will also be required to undertake both the financial and quality management of projects in accordance with Group procedures and contribute to the development of junior staff.

Candidate Specification

The candidate will possess a MEng in Civil Engineering or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering and have Chartered or Incorporated status with an appropriate professional body with at least one year’s experience post professional qualification. He/She must have demonstrable experience in the design of geotechnical structures such as retaining wall, foundations, slope stabilisation through the use of soil nails and of load bearing piles in accordance with Eurocodes. She/he will be confident in the use of design software such as Plaxis, Slope W and Repute.
