Mott MacDonald has an opportunity for a project / construction manager to join our ever expanding transportation team in New York / New Jersey and work across some of the largest infrastructure projects in the area.

Our transportation and infrastructure teams are based across a number of offices in New York, New Jersey and the east coast area; working on some impressive projects. For the Brooklyn-Battery tunnel in New York we provided construction administration and inspection services for the replacement of equipment including switchgear and electrical feeders at the four tunnel ventilation buildings. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, we are designing replacements for all electrical, mechanical, structural and communications equipment.

We've been providing programme and construction management for the US$7.3 billion East Side Access project in New York city, connecting the Long Island Rail Road line into Grand Central Station – America’s largest infrastructure project.

Job Description

Mott MacDonald is looking for a project / construction manager to work across several large-scale construction projects. Day to day you will supervise staff primarily composed of resident engineers, office engineers and inspection staff for infrastructure and transportation related, primarily rail and bridge, projects in the New York Metro Area. You will apply a comprehensive knowledge of various disciplines to be used during different construction phases. As an experienced project / construction manager you will be familiar with required contractual obligations and technical aspects of the project. In addition to the primary tasks of construction supervision, you will also be involved with procurement and field engineering.

As a construction / project manager, some of the tasks you will experience day to day will include:
  • Providing and presenting constructability reviews to the client
  • Directing and reviewing the overall planning of construction activities to identify critical milestones and priorities
  • Determining and reviewing budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule
  • Managing and reviewing the assignment of manpower, materials, and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and to meet budget goals
  • Keeping alert to possible problem areas and taking preventative action to ensure that critical milestones are met for each phase of the project
  • Preparing and / or reviewing cost and risk analyses and extra work claims for the client
  • Being the primary contact with the client and maintaining and developing strong relationships
  • Ensuring the project is performed to the standard safety and quality assurance requirements for the client

Candidate Specification

I am looking to speak with project / construction manager candidates who have availability to join the Mott MacDonald team soon and invite applications from candidates with:
  • Previous construction management and / or resident engineering experience working with public agencies
  • Experience with overseeing major, heavy civil projects
  • Experience working on construction projects with rail bridges or movable bridges
  • Minimum of 20+ years’ relevant experience in the infrastructure and / or transit industry
  • Bachelors' degree or other appropriate degree
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Professional engineer license or ability to obtain in New York State and / or New Jersey
