Senior international air quality consultant

Job Profile

Our recent international air quality jobs, particularly in energy, have been in countries such as Botswana, Zambia, Indonesia, Argentina, Vietnam, the UAE and Zambia. These are the kinds of projects you’ll get to work on! Our energy projects span coal fired power plants, CCGT, diesel, energy from waste and biomass. We also conduct a number of dust assessments for solar PV, wind and other major Mott MacDonald infrastructure projects globally.

Job Description

With us, in addition to delivering and sometimes managing international ESIAs, you will undertake large scale air quality projects on behalf of governments, international financial institutions and private banks. You’ll be responsible for providing country wide policy advice, monitoring and modelling.

We also train governments and private banks in air quality assessment methods (recently in Tanzania) and the application of international guidelines.

Our international team is based primarily from our superb Brighton office within the energy team but is linked in with our 75 air quality practitioners globally.

Chris will be your manager: “we have a lot of work lined up and you’ll be working on HS2, international development projects in Africa, large highways schemes in the UK and we’re also in the process of updating a major international lender’s guidelines on air quality. You’ll be part of my team delivering for these amazing projects”.

Shalini, one of the Brighton team, was working on a project in Zambia recently: “my role was to provide training to government officials in how to undertake air quality assessments that meet international requirements for geothermal energy projects. It was a great opportunity to see such a beautiful country by extending my time there following completion of the training”.

You will be at the heart of dealing with emerging issues from DEFRA’s air quality action plan for major infrastructure projects in the UK. As well as HS2, we’re also working on highways projects in the UK and so we do need people who have some experience in this area owing to the standards required.

Now to the location. Our Brighton office has around 300 people. We're by the sea, it's sunny a fair bit of the time…and there is a huge amount to do here. We have weekly massage sessions, have an amazing sports and social club with the, soon to be legendary, party boat, a range of sports clubs including tennis, beach volleyball, football, sailing, badminton, swimming and many more. We have many many socials as well as theatre, laser tag games, bowling, cocktail making - it goes on. A happy office and a vibrant atmosphere which you'll see when you come to interview! However, if you cannot make it to Brighton we can also consider you being based with one of our teams in Bristol, Cambridge, Leeds, London, Manchester or Southampton.

Candidate Specification

While we’re involved with a lot of energy and international work we do need you to have experience on UK highways related applications as these projects are ongoing and you’ll need to be familiar with the UK standards and related tools required including ADMS-Roads, ADMS and/or AERMOD. Experience in modelling transport related emissions as part of air quality assessments for planning applications and EIA is going to be essential.

It would be great if you also had experience with international energy projects, but don’t worry if not. You’ll get on-the-job practical experience and we’ll always provide you with plenty of support.

If you have any questions or haven’t yet put a CV together and just want to discuss please contact me directly onrob.power@mottmac.com or call me on +44(0)1273 365457.
