A member of the transport planning based in Birmingham, the Principal transport planner will be highly integrated within a range of planning and engineering projects and assisting in driving these projects to successful delivery. You will be a key addition to the team, contributing to the continued development of Mott MacDonald’s market presence and the ongoing growth of the Transport Planning business.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead on transport planning and multi-disciplinary projects for a variety of project types, sizes and client type
  • Demonstrable skills in transport strategy development, major scheme business case work, development planning, masterplanning, feasibility studies and sustainable transport planning
  • Experience in business development activities, preferably able to demonstrate successful input to bids/tenders
  • Supporting senior staff and contribute to successful project delivery
  • Manage junior staff in terms of briefing, checking technical work and adherence to programme plans
  • Preparing and / or contributing to technical reports and other project outputs
  • Mentoring and train team, involving skills transfer and knowledge sharing of technical best practice
  • Writing and contributing to proposals for a variety of project types, sizes and client type
  • Contribution to identifying new client opportunities, business development and continued growth
  • Working in a team environment, represent and exemplify Mott MacDonald’s values in all activities

Candidate Specification

  • Degree in a related discipline (or equivalent)
  • Experience in transport planning with proven record of client interaction, relationship building and commercial/business awareness and acumen is essential
  • Experience of modelling tools and techniques
  • Professional, strong communication skills in report writing, bid drafting and communication with clients and colleagues
  • Successful candidate will be a member of a relevant professional organisation (such as MRTPI, IHT, ILT, TPS or ICE) ideally on route to chartered status
  • Experience in business development activities, preferably able to demonstrate successful input to bids/tenders
