Job Description

Mott MacDonald requires an experienced and qualified senior ornithologist / ecologist to join our Cambridge office. Reporting to the Ecology and Biodiversity Team Leader in the Environment Division, you will drive forward our services to existing internal and external clients and help to develop new business for the team. You should have a good understanding of the issues and constraints associated with working on infrastructure development projects, working in teams, managing resources and ensuring delivery.

Candidate Specification

You must be able to demonstrate the following:
• Highly competent ornithologist with strong UK experience. International experience would also be an advantage.
• A degree in Ecology (or directly related subject) at a minimum of 2.i. with an additional higher degree.
• Excellent ornithology knowledge and experience (including survey techniques and data analysis) and ideally a holder of a barn owl licence.
• Experience in leading and directing teams of field surveyors on large-scale projects
• Excellent experience in the UK ecological consultancy market, with a strong external-facing, client-orientated approach.
• Excellent understanding of UK nature conservation legislation.
• Experience in undertaking ecological impact assessments for EIAs and Habitat Regulations Assessments.
• Experience in due diligence work would be an advantage.
• Excellent project and financial management experience, with a proven ability to manage teams and inputs to large infrastructure projects.
• Willingness and/or experience in managing and training junior staff.
• Strong report writing skills, attention to detail and ability to write concise reports.
• Ability to work independently, take the initiative, make robust, defensible decisions and work to tight deadlines to meet client needs.
• Chartered Environmentalist or Chartered Ecologist.
• Willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally, if required.
• Full UK driving licence.
