Flood risk engineer

Job Profile

We are looking for a flood risk consultant/ hydraulic modeller to join our Cardiff, Bristol or Exeter offices. This opportunity will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team of engineers and scientists, in a vibrant multi-disciplinary office, working on a range of built-environment projects for a range of government and private clients.

Job Description

The role includes the following activities
  • Detailed 1D-2D hydraulic modelling using a variety of modelling packages, including TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller Pro.
  • Flood Risk/ Consequence Assessments.
  • Fluvial and Coastal risk management projects.
  • Hydrological studies.
  • Survey management.
  • Design of SuDS and conventional drainage systems.

To be successful you will have studied a geography, environmental science, engineering, software or physics-based degree and you will either be working towards Chartership or have recently become chartered and your post-graduate experience will include all or some of the activities listed above. You will report to a senior hydraulic modeller or engineer and who will support you in progressing your career.

Candidate Specification

The successful candidate will possess good written and verbal communication skills, a systematic logical approach to problem solving, and be able to work effectively to meet client needs and deadlines both independently and with supervision as part of a team.

Experience in any of the following will also be an advantage:
  • water modelling software packages such as TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, MIKE or Infoworks
  • developing scripts using Python.
  • Hydrology and hydraulics knowledge.
  • Experience in the use of GIS.
