Buiding physics engineer

Job Profile

We are seeking a Building Physics Engineer to work within the Built Environment Unit. The role will be based in London Fleet Place and will report directly into the Associate in the Building Sciences team.
The main responsibility would be to support the team on day-to-day project delivery, provide technical leadership in IES VE plant and energy modelling, support junior members technically and ensure client satisfaction and deadlines are being achieved.

With projects across the UK of a varied nature, this would be a long-term career appointment with the opportunity to advance to a more senior position within MM, supported by structured career development.

Job Description

The role will be challenging, demanding, varied, and offer fantastic opportunities for skill set and career development. The focus of the role is project delivery. As a Building Physics Engineer, the key elements of the role include:
  • Assisting and supporting the team on technical aspects of the services that the team provides on a day to day basis
  • Taking lead role in
    IES VE plant and energy modelling as required for the delivery of building performance projects
  • Be ready and willing to learn to carry out same exercises in EDSL TAS
  • Assisting the team with resourcing and budgeting for particular projects
  • Day-to-day modelling work to include but not be limited to:
    • Planning strategy and documentation – energy strategies and sustainability statements
    • Environmental assessments
    • Building modelling (energy performance, daylight studies, etc.)
    • Low and zero carbon strategies
    • Computational fluid dynamics assessments
    • Utilise IES VE and EDSL Tas Modelling Software
  • Achieve and maintain professional competency, knowledge and understanding of delivering the design of low energy and carbon buildings, including but not limited to: Building Regulation Part L and F compliance, Façade studies including Daylighting, Thermal and visual Comfort Studies, heating and cooling loads etc
  • On the delivery of projects, co-ordinate with other project disciplines, team members and clients.

Candidate Specification

We are looking for a candidate with a proven track record of working within an energy and sustainability design environment, within a recognised engineering practise, to join the Building Sciences team. The successful candidate will need/have:
  • An Energy/Sustainability/Building Services/ engineering related degree or equivalent
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills
  • Must be working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) and qualified Level 5 LCEA
  • Sound knowledge of statutory legislation and other standards
  • Advanced knowledge and use of appropriate project and design analysis software. IES VE accreditation is essential and EDSL TAS knowledge an advantage
  • Understand client requirements/objectives
