Job Description

  • Delivers a highly efficient, effective and available services to the business according to agreed business requirements and service levels within specialist areas of expertise, including but not limited to;
    • Windows Server (2012+)
    • Virtualization (Hyper-V and VMWare)
    • Data Centre & Server Room Infrastructures
    • Access to cloud services (Microsoft and other Software as a Service platforms)
    • Data Protection Technologies (CommVault/ASR)
    • Network Infrastructure (WAN/LAN/VOIP/MPLS/SIP)
    • Data Centre & Server Room Infrastructures
    • Unified Communications technologies such as Skype and Exchange online.
    • Firewall technologies (Cisco Meraki)
    • Wan Acceleration technologies (Riverbed SteelHead)
    • Access to cloud services (Microsoft and other Software as a Service platforms)
    • Remote Access services such as Microsoft Direct Access
  • Provide Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge, Event Management, Monitoring and Request Fulfilment capabilities within the Infrastructure Team.
  • Management of all relevant documentation including Global and local network diagrams, technical documentation, high and low level solution design documents, Knowledge documents, procedure documents, change control, test plans and transition plans.
  • Provides technical expertise to support the correct application of operational procedures.
  • Continuous Service Improvement – Benchmarking, performance monitoring ensuring that all infrastructure and services are configured/managed to optimum levels.
  • Acts as 3rd Level escalation point of contact with regards to Change, problems and incidents and see them through to resolution and manages suppliers where required.
  • Assists with the configuration management and auditing of all infrastructure Services.
  • Produce detailed documentation and conduct knowledge transition to other teams as required.

  • Perform effective Incident, problem and change management functions with regards to assigned services.
  • Performs day-to-day activities and checks as part of the on-going maintenance of the assigned services and that they are carried out in a timely manner as well as ensuring that a forward schedule of maintenance and upgrades are implemented.
  • Escalation into suppliers as and when required.
  • Performs auditing of Network Infrastructure & Data Centre services
  • Delivery of end to end delivery of technical change. This could be in the form of Projects, Continuous Service Improvements, Enhancements, Implementations and Technical refreshes.
  • Ensure that effective system performance/capacity monitoring for all Network & Data Centre Services
  • Participate in/host post implementation/major incident reviews
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Infrastructure availability and mean time between failures
  • Response times to issues/mean time to repair
  • Service continuity test success
  • Policies, procedures and other related documentation are up to date for team’s services inc DR/BCS.
  • Continual service improvements
  • Provides accurate and punctual regular and periodic reports, as required
  • No significant security breaches and audits report confirming that Network & Data Centre services have appropriate security measures

Candidate Specification

Essential experience:
  • Solid experience working within complex Global Network & Data Centre infrastructure environments.
  • Solid experience working within Microsoft Server and Storage environment
  • Able to provide and apply best practice infrastructure techniques (possibly gained from large organization experience).
  • Able to deliver through 3rd party providers where appropriate
  • Familiar with Linux systems
Desirable experience:
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing network issues on cloud based services
Essential certification and knowledge:
  • Excellent Windows Server Operating Systems Knowledge
  • Good TCPIP (including DHCP, DNS) Network Knowledge
  • Good Cloud Services Knowledge
  • ITIL v3 Foundation Certification
Desirable certification and knowledge:
  • Cisco Certification
  • Cisco CCNP
  • Microsoft Server Certification
Desirable qualification:
  • University degree or diploma
