Mott MacDonald, recently working across the UK, and overseas in the Caribbean, the USA, Middle East and India has extensive experience in assessing the issues arising at the coastline and for flooding in order to produce viable, affordable and sustainable solutions. We provide our customers with a range of technical expertise in areas such as Business Cases, coastal protection structures, flood defence, and climate resilience for scheme development.

Job Description

This role will be leading the technical delivery on a range of coastal and flood risk project teams. You will also be responsible for technical input to coastal strategies, business cases, and intervention projects across the business.

Responsibilities of the role include:
  • Project dependent Technical Principal roles for; business cases, fluvial and coastal flood risk, coastal protection and defence structures, coastal erosion and land stabilisation, strategic coastal planning and management.
  • Supporting business development processes and delivering tender documents

Candidate Specification

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following criteria:
  • A degree in coastal science or civil engineering (or related). Masters degree preferable
  • Chartered with relevant professional institution
  • Extensive experience in a broad range of coastal management and flood management projects. Previous technical delivery of significant project portfolios is important
  • Extensive experience of report writing and an aptitude and desire to enhance these skills in junior staff
  • Extensive experience in managing integrated multidisciplinary project delivery teams
  • Track record of successful technical contributions to bid preparation and business development
  • Sound understanding of coastal and flooding issues and policy and funding regimes
  • Demonstrable experience of interacting with coastal and fluvial numerical modelling and environmental aspects ie EIA / SEA / AA an advantage
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must have worked in the UK flood management and coastal sector, and to have delivered and really understand the drivers behind Strategic Outline Cases, Outline Business Cases and Full Business Cases
  • Willing to travel in UK and some overseas
