Job Description

We are hiring a Construction Manager to be based in our Los Angeles, CA office.

Duties & responsibilities:

  • Highly involved in tunnel construction project management ensuring efficient and effective resource management facilitating tunnel construction management and planning associated with the design of engineering projects such as metro, highways, rail or cable tunnels, etc.
  • Planning the work and maintaining responsibility for scope, budget, schedule and technical quality as the design progresses.
  • Project Management and coordination with other engineering disciplines including, Structural, environmental, mechanical and electrical engineers covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance or refurbishment.
  • Responsible for one or more work packages, leading a team of engineers and technical staff to set design basis
  • Act as the project representative for relationships with client project operating divisions, local authorities/stakeholders, partners and contractors.
  • Support and potentially lead on Bid management assisting in tenders for a variety of tunnel and underground work projects.
  • Ensure designs are buildable with appropriate consideration given to health and safety
  • Develop construction schedules during the design phase of the Project
  • Carry out a feasibility study, looked at possible tunneling methods and alignments

Candidate Specification

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mining, Geological Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer Registration in California is required.
  • Depth of managerial and engineering experience working on multi-disciplinary, significant rail transit tunnel projects including underground stations.
  • Demonstrated experience working with clients and contractors on design build for underground transit projects.
  • Experience with claims management and resolution
  • Experience with Dispute Review Boards
  • Extensive site and/or design Metro/Tunnel construction planning experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with rail systems design, construction and start up/commissioning and testing.
  • Design risk management, construction programing, tendering process and quality assurance management.
  • Experience of project management processes, from feasibility and design through to construction and close-out.
  • Experience and knowledge of differing underground construction techniques including TBM bored tunnels, hand excavated tunnels, NATM and cut-and-cover works.
  • Knowledge and experience in selection and design of tunnel linings in the construction of shafts and sprayed concrete lined tunnels preferably with local design codes
  • Skills in structural engineering, geotechnics, and railway and metro engineering will all be highly valued and utilized.
  • Have the necessary drive to achieve their goals and deliver commercial success.
  • Be innovative looking to develop their technical and management skills and willing to tackle any challenge.
  • Capability to work closely with a range of stakeholders is essential providing a pragmatic, effective and successful solution to engineering challenges any project may present.
