Country Lead - Tackling Deadly Diseases in Africa

Job Profile

Mott MacDonald is seeking National Public Health experts on the Tackling Deadly Diseases in Africa Programme (TDDAP), funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). TDDAP aims to save lives and reduce the impact of disease outbreaks and epidemics on African populations, building on lessons learnt from the Ebola crisis, and subsequent Zika and Yellow Fever epidemics.

TDDAP will aim to strengthen African health systems and institutions, by supporting:
(i) World Health Organisation Africa Office (WHO AFRO) reform
(ii) Countries’ ability to achieve the International Health Regulations (IHRs) based on assessment and prioritisation,
(iii) Better governance and accountability of public health systems
(iv) Improved data and evidence for decision making
(v) A contingency mechanism should a pre-crisis situation arise.
The six countries to be covered will be from the following: Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Burundi, Cameroon and two countries from the following: Niger, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Mauritania and Mali, to demonstrate a regional and cross-border approach.

Job Description

The Country Lead will work at country-level to achieve the set programme targets.

Candidate Specification

  • Master’s degree in Public Health / Epidemiology / related field
  • In-depth knowledge of the health sector in any of the following countries: Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Burundi, Cameroon, Niger, Central Africa Republic, Chad, Mauritania and Mali
  • Experience in health system strengthening, communicable diseases, epidemiology and surveillance.
  • Knowledge of global health security agendas, One Health and International Health Regulations will be a distinct advantage.
  • Past experience working on donor-funded health projects, preferably on DFID programmes.
  • Strong experience in capacity building and institutional strengthening
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French required.
