Job Description

The CAD Technician will work with our engineering team to develop bridge, box culvert,
retaining wall drawings and/or other engineering drawings from engineering notes, sketches, client standards, detailed drawings to ensure each design meets client’s requirements.
The projects may include work from NC, GA or other states where MM offices reside.
The CAD Technician will be expected to train and work with other disciplines as required by project demands.

Under the direction of the Project Manager and senior designers, this position works independently within a team on multiple assignments. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing Microstation CAD support in the form of technical drawings for transportation structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, etc.) including all aspects of preliminary and final plan preparation, quantity calculations, survey data processing, and drafting/plan revisions as required.
  • Preparing plans by utilizing engineering calculations, notes, sketches, etc. as prepared by designers; using geometry and structural components for accurate descriptions of components and completed structures.
  • Providing clear and detailed plan preparation work, compliant with accepted design/drafting standards of the client (i.e. NCDOT, AASHTO, City, County, etc.) including manuals, standard figures and plans, or other resources.
  • Providing a high quality deliverable by working closely with the project manager and design engineers
  • Assisting with plan review, adhering to QA/QC processes, and Structural CAD design support
  • Working with minimal supervision; organizing work, time and tasks for successful completion of assignments on schedule and for coordination with other team members.
  • Maintaining/Organizing electronic files, office standard practices and archives.
  • Documenting and communicating progress and project status timely and accurately.
  • Working as a team with solid communication, time management and an eye for detail.

Candidate Specification

  • HS Diploma required
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite of software.
  • Associates degree in Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technology or Civil Engineering Technology is preferred.
  • Experience with Microstation/Geopak is preferred.
  • Bridge CAD experience is preferred
  • Experience with NCDOT SMU policies and procedures is preferred.

This position will consider full time and part time candidate. Candidates with no experience will be considered for training.
