Job Description

As a Project Controls Specialist working as an integral part of the Mott MacDonald team, your duties will include but not be limited to:
  • Lead the cost control function for a major oil & gas pipeline project and/or other infrastructure projects undertaken by Mott MacDonald;
  • Establish and implement detailed project controls plans and procedures in accordance with Mott MacDonald standards and client project requirements;
  • Develop and maintain project progress reporting, including all financial and earned value reporting, in accordance with contract and business requirements;
  • Prepare project budgets and estimates;
  • Establish and maintain baseline budgets and cost plans, communicating status on an ongoing basis to project teams, clients and other third parties;
  • Implement and monitor and administer change control requirements including changes to project scope, budgets, contracts and schedule;
  • Capture and monitor data to ensure accurate and reliable plans, cost, schedule, contract, pricing and invoicing information are in place and accurately and promptly reported;
  • Develop and maintain planned and actual cost and commitment schedules (including “S” curves) and earned value;
  • Review, distribute and track invoices and progress payments for Mott MacDonald, its subconsultants and other third parties;
  • Communicate project control needs and objectives to Mott MacDonald line managers and other project personnel;
  • Assist the Project Manager with project reviews and QA/QC functions;
  • Support the Senior Project Controls Specialist in administration of subconsultant and third party contracts;
  • Interface and maintain liaison with clients, subcontractors and others on all cost control related activities;
  • Ensure consistent functionality of cost control reporting systems across a portfolio of Mott MacDonald projects and office locations; and
  • Supervise, train and develop other project control support staff.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ambition to take on additional roles in developing the business in North America and be willing to travel to client sites both local and non-local.

Candidate Specification

The ideal candidate will have experience working within our primary markets along with having the following candidate specifications (preferred candidates will possess the following):
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized and accredited university;
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in a multidiscipline project environment;
  • Experienced in leading and managing project cost control systems (experience of a variety of systems would be an advantage);
  • Excellent understanding of, and experience in, budgeting, cost reporting, progress and earned value reporting, including own organization and others;
  • Experienced in the preparation of Cost Control plans and procedures, and communication of such to project teams;
  • Experienced in the timely and accurate preparation of project weekly and monthly reports, and presentation of results and recommendations to senior management, often working to tight timescales;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced level proficiency with all MS Office products, including: Outlook; Word; Excel; PowerPoint; and Internet Explorer;
  • A high attention to detail and a fundamental desire for delivering the best possible product at all time, including the ability to deal efficiently with priorities and manage time appropriately;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated experiences to support, including to clients outside your own organization;
