Chartered structural engineer

Job Profile

At the heart of our projects are our people and as our Belfast team continues to grow, we are recruiting a Chartered structural engineer.


We have successfully delivered many local projects, from the Belfast office, including Belfast Metropolitan College at Titanic Quarter, the new Omagh Fire and Rescue Station and Headquarters, the Belfast Schools project comprising Ashfield Girls, Boys and Girls Model and Grammar and the recently completed Foyle College and Ebrington Primary.

Job Description

As a Chartered structural engineer, you will manage and lead the delivery of building projects. This work will be across a range of sectors including those education, transport, emergency services, industrial and health.

• Designing building structures to Eurocodes
• Working with multi-disciplinary teams in the preparation of design solutions
• Coordinating the structural design with other disciplines
• Preparation of design stage reports
• Mentoring and managing graduate engineers and checking and reviewing their work
• Programming design and deliverables to meet deadlines, and monitor spend against budgets
• Representing Mott MacDonald at client and design team meetings
• Preparation of tender documentation including specifications
• Representing Mott MacDonald at site meetings and inspecting site works

You will also need to show us you have the following:

• BEng or MEng in structural or civil engineering
• Chartered with the Institution of Structural Engineers (preferred) or Civil Engineers.
• Experience of structural design across a multitude of building sectors.
• Sound technical capability and recent experience using Eurocodes.
• Experience of Analytical/Design software such as Staad, Tekla, RAM and Tedds and Revit to view/review models and print drawings (training will be provided for software used by Mott MacDonald).
• Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills to produce project related documents including technical reports and specifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively and clearly and represent Mott MacDonald professionally at meetings.
