Principal Acoustic Engineer

Job Profile

This is a key position in our acoustics team, as a principal acoustic engineer.
W
e are looking for a technically experience individual who will help to develop the team and support their ever-growing thirst for knowledge. We don’t just need your technical knowledge we need your people management skills as well. We can offer technical challenges, interesting projects (buildings and environmental, and a friendly and professional working environment.

Our project portfolio is continuing to grow and you would be working on a wide array of projects mainly in the UK although some are overseas.

Projects include
Modelling, prediction, and design services to minimise noise and vibration
Environmental assessment of large infrastructure schemes at all stages
Facade design to control external noise intrusion
Sound insulation design to achieve client’s privacy requirements
Architectural acoustic design to optimise acoustic comfort
Electro-acoustic design to enhance intelligibility of life safety communication systems

We also assist with all stages of the procurement process, encompassing initial concept, design delivery, planning, procurement and construction, assessment and mitigation of noise and vibration in new build and refurbishment, remedial works and expert witness.

This role is based can be based at our Bristol, Croydon or Southampton Offices.

Job Description

In this role you will be joining a team of acoustic specialists providing services to the group. The work will give you the opportunity to lead acoustics aspects in a diverse range of projects at all stages, from preliminary design through to construction and operation, and which range in size from small planning applications to major infrastructure schemes.
You will be required to supervise and mentor junior staff (for which there will be line management responsibilities), project management, and technical work on projects in either the environmental or building acoustics sectors (although experience in the other sector will be welcome). These projects cross the Mott MacDonald areas of expertise and as such can include acoustic input towards schemes associated with transportation; generation and transmission of power; utilities; residential, commercial and industrial development and due diligence.
Sufficient experience will be necessary to take the lead technical role on projects, although you will form part of a structured team for which you will both give and receive support. The acoustics team is based in offices throughout the UK, and some travel will be required.
The role will also carry with it a responsibility towards business development and will require the ability to understand, work with and communicate with engineers from various engineering and environmental disciplines.

Candidate Specification

To be considered for this role you will have a strong combination of the following:
  • Degree or similar in a numerate topic
  • Proven technical ability in terms of problem solving and analytical thinking
  • Business development and staff management experience
  • Ability to manage time, resources and projects effectively
  • Corporate membership of the IOA
  • Commitment to CPD
  • Willing and able to work within team environment and involve others where necessary
  • Innovative thinker
  • Seeks opportunities to develop relationships with clients
  • Seeks solutions for clients whilst taking account of needs of all stakeholders
  • Ability to write technical reports
  • Ability to actively mentor and manage staff
  • Good personal communication skills
Desired academic, professional qualifications and experience are:
  • Masters degree in acoustics/vibration or related field
  • Chartered status.
