Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Electrical Engineer-In-Training based in our Toronto office. This position is involved with the delivery of a range of projects within the built environment team of Mott MacDonald in Canada and United States, as well as supporting other parts of the international business.


As a Electrical Engineer-In-Training working as an integral part of the built environment team, your duties will include but not be limited to:
  • Development of electrical power and distribution design concepts with senior engineers in the areas of lighting, fire alarm and security systems, communications systems and other systems.
  • Interpret and write design specifications.
  • Provide technical support during the construction works..
  • Participate in the planning, design and construction of the project.
  • Prepare reports on the execution of the work and follow the schedule.
  • Participate in the cost estimate and recommend payments.
  • Participate in the drafting of technical specifications, administrative and of tender documents.
  • Perform data analysis, interpret analysis then make summaries and reports.
  • Ensuring design conforms to all applicable codes and client standards.
  • Visit sites to ensure the quality of the work and to carry out inspections of construction.
  • Perform any other related duties that may contribute to the projects.
  • Prepare drawings, concept design, technical specifications and calculations, technical reports, cost analysis and various other tasks as assigned.
The ideal candidate will also be willing to contribute to projects within other sectors and offices, as required.

Candidate Specification

You will have experience in electrical engineering and possess the following skills and experience:
  • Bachelor of electrical engineering from a recognized and accredited university;
  • 1-4 of years of experience.
  • Working towards professional engineer designation.
  • Experience in preparing drawings, concept design and drafting in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Knowledge of design specs for fire alarm and security systems, communication systems, and lighting for unique structures such as stadiums, healthcare facilities and municipal buildings.
  • Experience in cost estimation for public or private infrastructure projects.
  • Technical experience at work planning and implementation timelines.
  • Ability to balance the interest of cost, quality and time.
  • Excellent time management skills and adaptability.
  • Keen interest in delivering projects using BIM methods and technology driven solutions.
  • Proficient in the use of typical office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and other comparable such programs including the desire to utilize the full capabilities of Office365.
  • Excellent communicator (both oral and written) and skilled problem-solver with a commitment to thrive in a proactive organization where client service is paramount.
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude, to working with colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain good working relationships with clients and project teams.
