Principal Engineer/Associate

Job Profile

We are looking for a Chartered Senior Building Services engineer from a design consultant background with a wealth of recent experience which would ideally include a leadership role on significant higher education and cultural and arts projects. The successful candidate will perform a dual function in supporting bids and leading projects.
We therefore need someone with a strong CV who can give clients confidence that they have an in depth understanding of the specific needs of this discipline and develop appropriate engineering solutions.

This role is to primary to support our London MEP lead and develop our MEP business within the MEP sector across the South East of England as part of our Buildings and South East (BSE) Division.

You will sit within our BSE Area Account based in our Fleet Place Office located near to St Paul’s Cathedral.
With your MEP background, you will report to Greg Byrne, (MEP Lead London).

Job Description

The successful candidate would be expected to take projects from inception through to completion, including:
  • Producing multi-discipline fee proposals in response to ITT’s
  • Leading MEP project team
  • Leading the design concept, detailed design delivery and construction stage monitoring
  • Liaising with other internal disciplines such as Structural, civils, Acoustics, Fire Engineers together with external project team
  • Developing MEP team skills and mentoring engineers within the project team
  • Commercial delivery of projects to target
  • Being client facing
  • Developing the sector business and, where appropriate, developing past and future contact base

Candidate Specification

We would expect the successful candidate to be familiar with the low carbon and sustainability agenda and low environmental impact design concepts. Ultimately, we are looking for someone who is passionate about good design within the built environment and can advise Architects on issues such as building thermal envelope optimisation.
Whilst we have a leading edge building simulation team, we would expect the successful candidate to have an appreciation of the benefits, appropriate applications and limitations of the associated software and be very familiar with the processes involved in optimising design and energy options appraisals.
Ideally, we would expect the successful candidate to have experience in some or all of the following:
  • Higher education sector
  • Arts/culture sector
  • working knowledge of designing within a BIM environment
