Environment - Account Leader

This role is critical for building and maintaining Mott MacDonald’s relationships with our most important clients, planning the accounts and building a client centric experience.

Job Description

The Account Leader will be expected to win great work, grow the account to maximise opportunity for Mott MacDonald, and be accountable for the delivery of excellent projects that leverage all the value Mott MacDonald can bring to the client. You will coordinate the provision of client-facing support ensuring that client’s projects are delivered to time, cost and quality and that Mott MacDonald is commercially successful. With a wide network of stakeholder, you will need to manage the needs and demands of Account Leaders, Client representatives, Sector Leaders, Divisional General Managers, Resource Managers, Bid Principal/Manager, Project Manager, Practice Leaders, and other stakeholders with interest in various Clients.


This role will suit an outgoing individual who wants to be part of a growth business in a fast moving, client focused commercial environment. You will be office based however there will be a requirement to undertake clients visits and meetings within the Southeast Asia region. The role will be senior level position who is expected be taken up by an experienced individual with in-depth understanding of the Southeast Asia market, context and nuances of delivering environmental and social services across multiple sectors (eg. power, transport, social infrastructure, water).

This is a complex role, combining both operational and strategic challenges, balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders across a regional matrix. The ability to prioritise, influence without authority and collaborate is fundamental, substantiated by subject matter expertise and a drive for excellence and results.
Critical responsibilities include:
  • develop and maintain strong key client relationships
  • maintain our relationship with our strategic partners and develop new partnerships as necessary
  • actively deliver and direct projects to exceed our customers’ expectations and ambitions
  • drive technical excellence by seeking innovative solutions that add value for our customers
  • provide strategic direction and lead the business planning for the account to deliver its contribution to the divisional business plan
  • grow a sustainable business and deliver the allocated environmental services annual budget through securing the future order book by identifying opportunities, turning them into prospects and driving the bidding process, ensuring bids are technically and commercially sound
  • undertake Project Principal roles to ensure high quality technical output in accordance with the Group’s business management system
  • promoting effective implementation of technology
  • achieving sales and revenue KPIs
  • providing strategic direction for recruitment to deliver annual growth

Candidate Specification

Your experience should be a good mixture of the following:
  • post-graduate degree in environmental science/engineering or other subjects, relevant to a core environmental or social discipline
  • strong commercial management and business planning skills
  • Extensive project leadership experience as a project principal on a range of projects including advising lenders on project finance transactions;
  • In-depth understanding of active project risk management particularly in relation to advising lenders and investors;
  • sound knowledge of international lending safeguard requirements, such as Equator Principles (EP) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards
  • willingness to travel and undertake client visits in Southeast Asia
  • Proven track record in business development related role with detailed knowledge of Southeast Asia markets and clients;
  • proven energy sector experience, with infrastructure finance advisory experience highly desired
  • significant project portfolio evidencing relationship and commercial success
