Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Project Manager/Tunnel Engineer based in our Vancouver office. This position is involved with the delivery of a range of projects within transport team of Mott MacDonald in Canada and United States, as well as supporting other parts of the international business.


As a Project Manager/Tunnel Engineer working as an integral part of the transport team, your duties will include but not be limited to:
  • This will be a versatile role, with the Project Manager/Tunnel Engineer undertaking a cross-section of projects; including: tunnels, microtunnels, horizontal directional drilling, braced excavations and other underground structures/projects. As a project manager, your duties will include:
  • Leading resource planning and coordination
  • Developing engineering concepts, and articulation to the team
  • Working as part of a multi-discipline team to deliver project input
  • Project management and ownership of the engineering input into the project
  • Ability to co-ordinate with different teams, both within Mott MacDonald and externally
  • Liaising with the client, attending progress meetings and producing reports on progress
  • Providing expert engineering input into design; and evaluation of built environment proposals.
The ideal candidate will also be willing to contribute to projects within other sectors and offices, as required.

Candidate Specification

Mott MacDonald's experience in tunneling dates back to the early 1900s. Our team of professionals provides cost-effective and innovative engineering solutions for North American tunneling industry with unprecedented success. We’re looking for an individual to join our team to continue this and invite applications from candidates with:
  • Masters in civil engineering preferred as a minimum, but BS in civil engineering considered. Degree(s) should be structural in geotechnical, or civil
  • 10+ years of experience in the design and project management of tunnels.
  • Professional engineering designation in BC (P.Eng) or eligible for transfer.
  • Experience working with government and local agencies.
  • Proven track record in tunnel design.
  • Keen interest in delivering projects using BIM methods and technology driven solutions.
  • Proficient in the use of typical office packages such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Project and other comparable such programs including the desire to utilize the full capabilities of Office365.
  • Excellent communicator (both oral and written) and skilled problem-solver with a commitment to thrive in a proactive organization where client service is paramount.
  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude, to working with colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments, and
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain good working relationships with clients and project teams.
