Mott MacDonald has a requirement for a quantity surveyor to support our transportation team in Cumbria working on an exciting, award winning £100m+ infrastructure programme

Job Description

  • Support procurement lead in procurement and tendering activities.
  • Prepare EoI’s, ITT’s
  • Undertake commercial assessment and due diligence on all tender returns
  • Make contract recommendation approvals.
  • Monitor and process on behalf of project management all financial queries from consultants and contractor’s.
  • Support and advise the project manager in respect of fulfilment of all contractual obligations.
  • Attend progress meetings to respond to commercial matters raised.
  • Attend internal management meetings to input to reporting processes
  • Check submitted assessments and applications and process onto eTool.
  • Clarify any queries with consultant or contractor and agree with project managers.
  • Prepare payment certificate for approval and issue to senior management and project managers.
  • On receipt of approvals issue payment certificate to contractor and to capital/revenue team.
  • Carry out periodic commercial checks and due diligence in conjunction with the project manager to ensure information submitted corresponds to records held by the consultant or contractor.
  • In conjunction with the project manager provide ongoing assessment of consultant or contractor’s estimate to completion.
  • Assist in assessment of early warnings and compensation events submitted by consultant or contractor – review the submissions and advise the project manager of the necessary commercial actions to be taken
  • Assist in negotiation with the consultant or contractor in respect to changes in time and cost – advise the PM of all necessary commercial actions to be taken.
  • Assist project managers with internal change control process for conject and budget adjustment – advise the PM of all necessary commercial actions to be taken
  • Receive and check consultant or contractor’s final account. Negotiate any amendments and reach a final figure and recommendation for acceptance or rejection.
  • Act in accordance with the project leaders instructions
  • Take part in contract reviews relating to the contract with the client
  • Comply with QES system and group/unit directives
  • Attendance at design team and progress meetings as necessary
Assist in:
  • the preparation of monthly management reports
  • in securing new and repeat business in line with the sub-divisional budget
  • in the preparation of estimates and cost plans in line with the brief
  • the provision of financial advice including the impact of inflation
  • on contract & supply chain procurement
  • development of programmes for the delivery of our services
  • preparation of standard documentation – reports, valuations, letters, financial statements etc
  • preparation of tender documents as required by procurement choice (including Bills of Quantities)
  • analysis of tenders and preparing tender reports at all stages of procurement
  • assess applications for payment inline with the contract terms
  • in the validation and agreement of any contractual claims
  • in the settlement of construction disputes and prepare and agree final accounts
  • the production of lessons learned report for post contract review
  • the collection and analysis of cost data

Candidate Specification

  • Degree qualified in a Quantity Surveying subject (or equivalent)
  • Will be working towards chartered status (MRICS)
  • Proven skills and experience of delivering within a Cost Consultancy
  • Demonstrable track record of working in the management services environment
  • Flexibility in work location and travel
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to prioritise and able to work under pressure
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
