We have transport engineers located across the UK and are currently
looking for experienced engineers and scheme designers to play a key technical role in the delivery of our existing portfolio of work and build on the continuing success and growth of our national and international business.

Our work covers a diverse spectrum, ranging from the development of local transport plans and projects to some of the World’s largest infrastructure projects such as Heathrow’s third runway and High Speed 2.

Job Description

As a Principal Transport Engineer, you would be an integral member of the established teams in one of several UK offices; increasing workloads in this field means we have potential roles in our Croydon, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cambridge and Liverpool offices.
You would support project teams across a broad spectrum of technical work including walking and cycling schemes, urban realm improvements, junction improvements, bus priority, pedestrian crossings, parking and traffic management schemes.


The majority of our work involves scheme design up to feasibility level (RIBA Stage 3), but we are also interested in hearing from individuals who have the expertise to oversee detailed design work, although this is not an essential requirement of the role.

The role will provide an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your ability to lead the development of projects and develop relationships with key clients to ensure repeat business.

Responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Support the design of a range of challenging traffic engineering schemes and transport studies
  • Support delivery of projects from instruction through to completion
  • Specify and undertake technical analysis, deriving key findings and reporting results;
  • Support project and task management of a range of design focussed projects with responsibility for resourcing, financial management, client interface and delivery.
  • Specify and manage feasibility studies, preparing reports and presentations
  • Specify, interpret and challenge the results of traffic modelling, both at a local junction (Arcady / Linsig) and Microsimulation (Vissim / Paramics) level.
  • Contribute input into business development activities including coordinating delivery of bids and compiling and support bid writing.
  • Working with other disciplines and locations

Candidate Specification

You must have a degree or equivalent and preferably a Masters degree in a relevant transportation, engineering, town planning or other design related subject.
You should preferably be chartered or actively working towards chartership, which we will support you to do.

Applicants must have proven experience and success in project delivery including commercial and financial management. The successful candidate will be committed to providing high quality and innovative solutions and advice to clients and have first class report writing, project management, supervisory, communication and technical ability.

You must also be able to demonstrate:
  • A degree (or equivalent), ideally in a transport related discipline
  • Further qualifications in transport planning, civil engineering, urban design or related areas are of benefit but not essential
  • Experience in the the delivery of traffic engineering, urban realm, and transport planning projects
  • Strong client liaison skills, with an ability to maintain effective and ongoing relationships with a wide range of existing and potential clients
  • Knowledge and application of relevant design standards
  • Knowledge of writing proposals and winning new work
  • An ability to solve complex problems and identify new innovative solutions
  • Dedication to the delivery of projects and the development of the business as a whole
  • Strong communication skills, both within project teams and when in a client environment.
  • Willingness to work simultaneously on a number of projects and flexible to work with different teams around our UK and overseas offices.
