How we can help you drive down your carbon

Nobody knows carbon management like we know carbon management. We have been working with leading clients to cut carbon for nearly a quarter of a century, helping them reduce their environmental impact, drive efficiency and become more sustainable.

In 2015 we co-authored PAS 2080, the international standard for managing infrastructure carbon. We organise the annual Carbon Crunch conference, bringing together clients, practitioners and carbon management experts to discuss best practice. And we have recently become one of the first in our industry to achieve global carbon neutrality.

We have a host of services that can help you drive down your emissions or become carbon neutral, wherever you are on your journey:

Developing strategies

Developing strategies

Route-mapping: Cutting your sector’s or organisation’s carbon and aligning with long-term net-zero emissions targets requires an effective long-term strategy.
We have developed route-maps to net-zero for the whole of the UK’s water sector and for individual clients globally. These strategies draw on our wider expertise in infrastructure and energy-system transitions. We use climate science to set targets for progress towards net-zero.
Preparing for certification: We can help you achieve the requirements to meet ISO 14064, the international standard for carbon reporting, and PAS 2060, the standard for carbon neutrality, putting you in the best position to be externally accredited for reporting your emissions and managing them.
Collaborative achievement: Cutting emissions to become carbon neutral requires organisations to work together. Each organisation has direct control over only some of their total emissions; to reduce indirect emissions they rely on others. Understanding interdependencies and possible synergies between organisations requires strong collaboration, robust data, transparent communication, willingness to share information, the capability to drive continuous improvement and the means to learn from the experience of others. Digital innovation has an important role to play in measuring, modelling and managing carbon emissions within and across organisational boundaries.

Capital projects and asset operation

Capital projects and asset operation

Low carbon design: Working across all sectors, we have the know-how to help you deliver low carbon projects.
We start by considering ‘no-build’ or ‘build different’ solutions that enable you to meet your needs without building new assets and the associated carbon. Where new assets are necessary we work to create them with greatly reduced whole-life carbon emissions. Working with you and the supply chain, we can identify low carbon products, materials and construction methods, ensuring less carbon is embedded in your assets.
Designing for more efficient performance will also drive down operational emissions. The earlier in the process we are involved, the lower we can drive your emissions. Our aim is to future-proof your infrastructure in the context of the Paris Agreement – preventing runaway climate change by keeping the global average temperature within 2°C of the pre-industrial average, and ideally within 1.5°C – which involves cutting global emissions to net-zero by 2050.
Moata Carbon Portal: We created the industry’s first platform to automatically calculate the carbon footprint of BIM-designed assets and can utilise this tool to drive down the capital and operational carbon emissions of your projects.
Manage infrastructure carbon with PAS 2080: We authored PAS 2080, the international standard for managing carbon in the delivery and operation of infrastructure and were the first consultant to be independently accredited. We practice what we preach, so are accredited to PAS 2080 globally. We are well placed to support you in delivering low carbon assets that meet this framework. PAS 2080 looks both at the whole life of assets and at the whole value chain, to reduce carbon and cost from initial design through construction and operation to end-of-life.
Nature-based design: We can advise on suitable nature-based solutions which work with and enhance natural resources to minimise carbon emissions or actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
