The challenge of the project was to create functional transport facilities with a holistic design encompassing an efficient, safe and maintainable structure.
The integration of various teams at the joint office was key to success with frequent communication and model sharing a core principle of the project. We worked closely with stakeholders to identify problems and provide solutions during the design stage. Repetition and modularity in manufacturing, transport and erection methods were used for all aspects of the design and construction phase to optimise efficiency and sustainable maintenance.
All station designs have adopted the use of as much precast concrete as possible. The solution was reached through active consultation with our clients technical managers to develop the first use of fully precast concrete underground railway stations in Australia.
Minimising the use of raw construction materials and labour on site in favour of pre-fabricated elements has increased the efficiency and sustainability of the project both in construction and in future maintenance operations. We were able to provide functional yet efficient and safe structures to the client with the benefits of reduced operational costs and design life of 100 years.
