Mott MacDonald preferred partner for two National Grid collaborative contracts

Mott MacDonald is preferred partner for two of six five year Alliance contracts to be awarded by National Grid worth up to £2.8 billion to upgrade and develop the electricity transmission network across England and Wales. The contracts, split on a geographic basis, will be amongst the largest ever awarded by National Grid and relate to work on high voltage overhead lines, underground electricity cables and substation development and construction.

Mott MacDonald’s alliance with AREVA and Skanska is preferred partner for one of four substation contracts. The works in the south east region will include projects to connect new infrastructure such as wind farms and other new electricity generation plant plus additional projects associated with the requirements of regional distribution network operator EdF Energy. The contracts will also cover enhancement and replacement of existing assets to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the electricity transmission network.

Mott MacDonald is also preferred partner under a separate alliance with Amec and Babcock, for one of two overhead line and cable contracts. The alliance has been appointed to develop, enhance and construct overhead lines and cable projects covering the western half of the National Grid transmission network.

Commenting on the award Martin Hornsby managing director of Mott MacDonald’s energy business said: “We are delighted to have been appointed preferred partner for two of National Grid’s new collaborative contracts to upgrade and develop the electricity transmission network across England and Wales. With strong technical, design, project and programme management skills we aim to deliver projects on time and with a strong commitment to safety. We look forward to working with our partners in both alliances.”
