The scheme will defend the town from coastal erosion and the impacts of flooding over the next century, safeguarding 1500 homes and businesses. The scheme, built by VolkerStevin, was completed six months early.
Construction works included rock groynes, beach recharge and a rock revetment and access way that extended the existing promenade.
Our coastal modelling demonstrated that, by selecting rock groynes instead of timber, 18 groynes were sufficient, instead of 50.
Originally planned for two stages, all beach work was completed in one phase, freeing most of the beach for use six months ahead of schedule.
