Mott MacDonald assists on Jumeirah Golf Estate Development Phase B

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Leisurecorp, a division of Istithmar PJSC and the investment arm of Dubai World, to provide management and design services on Phase B of the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.

The Jumeirah Golf Estates brings together the world’s leading golfing and course design superstars, to create Dubai’s premier residential golfing community. Greg Norman, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and golf course design expert, Pete Dye, are working on creating one of the world’s most distinctive golf developments. Phase B of the development, known as “The Water Course’ and designed by Vijay Singh, will include a range of luxury villas, cottages and medium rise apartment buildings themed around a wetlands landscape.

Mott MacDonald already has a site team of 30 staff providing management and supervisory services to help deliver Phase A of the project which includes both the ‘Earth’ and ‘Fire’ courses. To fulfill the infrastructure design requirements, along with project and cost management services for Phase B, Mott MacDonald anticipates that this team will grow to include more than 50 on-site experts with additional support from Mott MacDonald designers based at the company’s offices in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Mott MacDonald’s project co-ordinator, Nigel Rutylo said, “We are delighted that Leisurecorp has shown confidence in our team by awarding us with the contract for Phase B. This is an exciting development that provides us with the opportunity to demonstrate our expertise as well as adopt some truly innovative solutions.”

“One such innovation includes the installation of the region’s first permeable pavement that allows for the natural percolation of rain water into the ground, particularly useful considering the Dubai’s sporadic and often heavy rainfall.”

David Spencer, chief executive of Leisurecorp said, “We worked closely with Mott MacDonald during the development of Phase A of the Jumeirah Golf Estates and have every confidence that their commitment to quality and design innovation will be applied to Phase B.”

He continued, “To build the world’s most prestigious residential golf community requires a wholehearted commitment to only partner with those companies that share our level of desire for unrivaled quality and innovation. We are proud to be working alongside Mott MacDonald during this next phase of the Jumeirah Golf Estates development.”

The Water Course will wind through naturally vegetated dune troughs, following ribbons of wetland. The dunes themselves will be vegetated with native salt-tolerant tall grasses and sedges, for a natural look, and oasis and pond areas will be fringed with palm trees. This approach is unique in Dubai, and will result in a challenging, traditional course that is dramatic in both appearance and feel. The course will also benefit from a variety of tee options and allow for a range of course lengths.
