Cambridge Education assists key Beijing district

Cambridge Education has been appointed by Haidian District Education Committee to provide consultancy services to 20 schools in the District on an innovative education reform project. Haidian is one of the richest and most progressive districts in Beijing, China's capital, and is generally regarded as a pioneer in Chinese education development.

Professionals from Cambridge Education China have been providing assistance to the Education Committee since 2005. This new appointment will see Cambridge Education training headteachers and senior management staff at 20 schools, helping to improve leadership and management skills through School Development Planning (SDP) and classroom observation. The contract will run for three years to the end of 2011.

Haidian is the first Chinese education district to directly contract with a foreign education consultancy services provider and this appointment is considered unusual in a country where education assistance is generally not sought from outside the government education system. Haidian's initiative seeks to expose Haidian schools to international best practice and challenge them to find new and better forms of school management that are more suited to a country in rapid transition. Cambridge Education has been appointed largely due to its combination of experienced international education professionals together with local knowledge from the company’s Chinese staff who have also gained international insight through training in the UK.

Andy Brock, Cambridge Education’s project director said, “The partnership between Cambridge Education and Haidian Education Committee is one of mutual interest in striking new paths for Chinese education reform. After a three-year trial period, we are delighted to be awarded a further three-year commission by Haidan Education Committee. We have a wealth of experience in helping schools in China to develop their management systems and capability. We’re very much looking forward to extending our partnership with Haidian schools.”
